The ISEE is basically the same test as the SSAT; it is just administered independently and it takes place at different times during a given year.

ISEE Test Preparation Overview

ISEE test prep basic information on admissions testing related to the 3 different levels associated with this exam.

The Independent School Entrance Examination (ISEE) is used for admission to private middle schools and high schools.

Lower Level: The Lower Level is for an enrolled entry currently in grades 4 and 5 who is testing for entrance to grades 5 and 6.
Middle Level: The Middle Level is for an enrolled entry in grades 6 and 7 who is testing for entrance to grades 7 and 8.
Upper Level: The Upper Level is for an enrolled entry in grades 8 through 11 who is testing for grades 9 through 12.

Every level has unique forms and tests for security purposes.

At any of the above mentioned 3 levels the composition of the exam is the same. Here are the 3 basic sections:

1. Standardized verbal and quantitative reasoning tests that measure your capability for learning (Approximately 80 questions in a 60-minute period).

2. Reading comprehension and mathematics achievement tests (Approximately 80 questions in a 65-minute period).

3. An essay section that you have 30 minutes to complete.

It is important to note that the essay is not actually scored and it does not factor into a students final test score. It is however photocopied and sent with all applications.

The ISEE is conducted on Saturday mornings throughout the fall and winter and it can be taken at various locations throughout the United States and Internationally.

    The vocabulary section is subject to yearly changes. The best bet is to use the "SSAT Books" lens to locate a current and inexpensive book. Just look at the publish date on any book to determine if it is current.

    Also, if you are an ESL student I would highly recommend you enroll in the "Private School Exam - test prep system" because it contains video and audio so you can actually hear the words pronounced - this makes learning and remembering them a little easier.
