ISEE Test

If you want your child to get the very best education, then consider investing in a private middle or high school. The return on the investment for private school, while not guaranteed, is often invaluable. Many private school students get scholarships to college, so consider investing now, and saving tens of thousands later. If you can't afford the full tuition, most private schools have generous grant and financial aid programs available to those qualified students with a demonstrated need. Don't let anything stop you from pursuing your dreams.

Once you decide to apply for private school, it is really imperative that you get a good understanding of the process. I will return here often and add to this discussion, just what it takes to get through the private school process.

About the ISEE Test

What You Need to Know About the ISEE

The independent Educational Records Bureau administers Independent School Entrance Exam in order to give placements in independent schools for grades 5-12. There are three levels of tests for grades 5-6, 7-8 and 9-12. Whatever the child's age the test takes 3 hours with time for two breaks.
I t consists of 5 sections including a 30 minute essay section. The essay is not scored, but a photocopy is sent to the school to which the child is applying.
Also covered is verbal reasoning, which is knowledge of synonyms and completion of sentences. There are 40 questions. At the lower level 25 minutes is allowed. The other two levels have 20 minutes for this section.

The quantitative reasoning section has 35 questions and lasts 35 minutes at all levels. At the lower levels it consists of comprehension passages, interpretation and application together with higher order thinking. At the middle and upper levels it consists of questions about arithmetic, geometry and algebra; concepts and understanding, higher order thinking and quantitative comparison.
The Reading Comprehension section consists of 7-9 passages with 4 -6 questions about each piece. The types of passages would cover social studies, the humanities and the sciences. At the lowest level there are 36 question sin 40 minutes. At other levels there are 40 questions in that time.
Mathematical Achievement 35 questions and 40 minutes a the lowest level, 45 questions in 45 minutes at the middle level and at the highest level 45 question sin 40 minutes. All levels test knowledge, skills, application, computation and comprehension.
The Educational Records Bureau stress on their web site that correct interpretation of the results is important. It is important too that your child sees such testing as an opportunity to show what they can do, rather than an obstacle course designed to trip them up. The schools need pupils, just as much as your child needs a school. But they need the right pupils and your child needs to find the right school. The ISEE is designed to bring the two together.
