Most consumers don't have the space in their bathroom to try ideas that are new and different. And the ones that do, often struggle with ideas that are innovative and creative. One of these ideas that those with larger bathrooms could certainly try for a fresh look is that of an island vanity. It is certainly not something you see in many homes and provides a look that is unique and distinguished. Before you start though, make sure to take care in minding your measurements. Adding a island vanity without the proper space can leave a bathroom feeling crowded and uncomfortable.
A bathroom vanity is the fixture in a bathroom that consists of a sink surrounded by storage furniture. They are meant to provide comfortable arrangements for using the bathroom and provide a definite focus to the way a bathroom looks. They are very important elements in an area of the home where most people spend a lot of private time, and can definitely help to provide the necessary storage for the various things that people require in a bathroom.
Island vanity units as their name suggests, form an island in the bathroom and in a way help to demarcate it into wet and dry areas. The problem in such units however is that the arrangement is only suitable for large bathrooms which will still leave enough area for its normal uses. There is also a problem for the plumbing required for such island vanity units. Because they do not come up against a wall, all piping for cold and hot water have to be done through the floor while even the drainage pipes need longer lengths to reach the outside of the home. This can sometimes create a difficulty in obtaining the right slopes that are needed for adequate drainage. This is rarely a problem for bathrooms situated at ground level, but for bathrooms in upper floors, this may require double ceilings and reduced heights in the rooms just below.
Storage cabinets that are normally part of such bathroom vanity and island vanity units are designed to store hygiene products, towels and other linen. A properly designed vanity unit can even include space for dirty laundry and even a washing machine. Most vanity units will include a sink, and some may even have two sinks. All these variations will depend on the amount of space that is available in the bathroom. A properly designed island vanity unit with two sinks will require having a bathroom that is at least 10 or 12 feet square. This allows sufficient space on either side of the unit, to serve as an entrance area and a bathing area that may include bathtubs, commodes and bidets.
An important feature of any bathroom vanity has to be the mirror and here size, shape and quality play an important part. Some vanity units may even have the mirror making up the door for the storage units. Another very important aspect of setting up an island vanity is the lighting that is required to allow the full functionality of the unit and the bathroom.
