My Day at the Nevis Botanical Gardens

Flowers and gardening is one of my pasisons. I took the ferry from St. Kitts to Nevis and visited the Botanical Gardens. The gardens and ponds were beautiful. It was one of the highlights of my day.

Botanical Gardens Entrance

I have always loved flowers so I had to visit the Gardens in Nevis.

The Mermaid Fountain

The Dolphin Pond

These dolphins reminded me of my lake house back in New York.

The Dolphins in my Yard

back in New York at my lake home.

Those 2 dolphins in the photo was once a huge pine tree with 2 trunks. A big, dead, old, pine tree that was once an eyesore and a nuisance. Now the tree is a graceful wooden pair of dolphins. I love to look at them and daydream, especially when I am feeling a little blue or sad. My spirits are lifted and my attitude changes when I look at those dolphins. I get a sense of freedom and excitement and happiness.

When I saw the Dolphin Pond in Nevis, it made me think of my lovely dolphins back in New York.

This photo was taken in September 2006 when my buddy Mark Evans was visiting me in upstate New York. Funny - Mark had hair back then - LOL!

The waterfall was so inviting!

Back to Nevis...

I wanted to jump in and cool off.

Not to worry about the "Killer Bees" in Nevis
Charlestown is where I ran into the "killer bees" but not to worry, I wasn't stung! It was actually fun. "Killer Bee" is a tropical drink that I enjoyed after visited the Botanical Gardens.

Nevis Tour Books

If you stay on St. Kitts, be sure to allow at least one day to visit Nevis, which is just a short ferry ride or a 10-minute flight away. The main port city there, Charlestown, is a study in historic preservation. Many of the 'skirt-and-blouse' structures - where the first level is stone and the second is wood siding - are still standing and are now being used for offices and stores. The stately old churches such as St. John's Anglican and the historic Cottle Church reinforce the sense of history. In addition, the Nevis Botanical Gardens offer a beautiful respite from the world, where you can learn about the unique plants of the Caribbean and enjoy the beauty of carefully designed displays of orchids, roses, bromeliads and fruit trees. While the wild vervet monkeys are endemic to both islands, they are more frequently sighted in Nevis, running across roads (and the golf course at the Four Seasons) or sitting in trees.
