Prince Edward Island - A Guide
This is a practical guide for PEI with the hopes of expanding this into a full fledged website. There is content and links to get you on your way to the island. I have also added some things that you won't find in tour books but that many Islanders do. Enjoy.
Prince Edward Island is surrounded by miles of sandy beaches and red sandstone cliffs. The maritime province is the smallest in the nation in both land area and population (excluding the territories).
135,000 "Islanders" presently live in the province with Charlottetown and Summerside consisting of a large portion of the population.
Charlottetown is the capital city of Prince Edward Island, and is called the "Birthplace of Confederation" after the historic 1864 Charlottetown Conference which led to Confederation.The City of Charlottetown is a small community of over 32,000 people located on the south shore of Prince Edward Island.
You're usually never a 20 minute drive from water on PEI. Beaches and recreational activities are abundant.

Canada Day Festivities
A great time on the island.
Canada Day - fireworks, concerts, big crowds. This is by far the most entertaining time to come to PEI. 2008 Concerts had Tragically Hip, Our Lady Peace, Billy Talent, Collective soul and more.The whole town is pumping this time of year so book early.
PEI Old Home Week
Old Fashioned Fun
Old Home Week - The event has been going on for more than 100 years. From livestock and agricultural shows to live music and stage performances and of course, the Midway, no visitor to Old Home Week will be lacking in something to see and do. Old Home Week is around August 10th to 18th.
Be Aware Of Islander Directions
PEI has some bad navigators.
One thing to be careful of if you're traveling on PEI is directions from locals. Most will not use street names but refer to buildings or other landmarks (that might not be there).
So make sure you take the time to explain that you are not from around here or you might be sent on a wild goose hunt.
