Isometric Exercises
Many people are put off by the thought of isometric exercises, but there is no reason to be. They can be simple, fun and a great way to relieve stress. More importantly, many people consider them to be the best way to strengthen muscles when used as part as a mixed exercises workout.
For best results you should aim to do 3-4 reps of each exercise and aim to
stagger the duration you hold each for so they get progressively longer. For example, hold the first for 10-15 seconds, the second for 15-20 and the last for 20-25. You will need to change the times to suit your needs and use a suitable weight you can manage.
Please note : It is important to make sure you get yourself a medical check first because of the strain placed on the muscles, and in turn blood pressure. If you have heart disease of high blood pressure this may be of concern to you.

List of isometric exercises are hard to provide since there isnt a definitive list as such - you can do them pretty much anywhere and you dont need any specialist equipment to do them. If you are not altering the length of the muscle and not moving the connecting joint then you will be doing static strength training - which is another name for Isometrics.
In fact, many actions through different sports can be classed as isometric exercise, although the sport itself is more likely to be aerobic exercise. Again, this shows that they work together really well.
As with any exercise there are plenty of other benefits though, and even simple isometric exercises have been strongly linked as being an effective stress treatment for a long time.
