Israel Elections - What's it all about?
Ranked #19,530 in Culture & Society, #398,263 overall
In Israel, elections for the new government are about to take place. What are the major issues and who are the major players in Israeli politics. It's not all about the Israel Arab conflict - there are major economic and social issues. Among other things here's a useful tool to help you understand the burning issues. What do the religious parties want? What do the parties say about the economy, education and the role of government in all the goings on in Israel.

Israel elections - what's at stake
A thriving economy and high quality education depends on Israel's citizens taking responsibility for their own lives.

If Israel wants to be among the leaders of the world in any field, it must shed it's socialist roots and encourage citizens to take responsibility for their own lives, their livelihood and wean them from welfare handouts and bloated benefits. The goverment needs to wean itself from involvement in many aspects of public life, and encourage private enterprise to fill the gaps.

We need to see a government composed of economically right wing parties, namely the Likud, Yisrael Beiteinu and Kadima. Preferably without any religious or socialist parties. Although these parties are right of centre on the issue of the Palestinians, they are more likely to have the will and the mandate to take important steps towards a real peace agreement when the Palestinian people and the rest of the Arab world are ready for it.

Where I stand in Israel's political landscape
On all the diagrams below, my position is marked by the red compass needle and each of the parties is marked by their logo on the chart.
Where do you stand on the Israeli political map?
Did you use the compass? Or do you know where you stand? I'd love to hear from you and discuss.

- Thanks for coming in and adding me to the group.
Actually, I was pleased to see that it is quite accurate, at least for me. I find myself a little right of center regarding security and relations with the Palestinians, yet further right than any of the parties on economic and social issues.
What's particularly shocking (not surprising) is that all the religious parties are far to the left on economic issues, like real socialist stuff. When did traditional orthodox Judaim become so socialist? I've studied Torah for years and I find that our sources are strongly in favour of personal responsibility and self sufficiency. Not relying on others for livelihood etc. So where does it come from?

- Torah Judaism, Likud, Shas, Haichud Haleumi, Israel Beiteinu, Gil, Habait Hayehudi, were near my positions... I really don't know how accurate it is, many answers I had were neutral because I didn't totally understand their political system. Hard to tell, I think it is Hawk/Religious...
