One hundred issues!

Amazing! Spectacular! Fantastic!

I probably should have accomplished this precious milestone back in 2001, but it matters not. Here I am 7 years later with more zany Star Wars material then Yoda can poke a stick at. Of which you will see just a fraction of a glimpse in this monster issue.

Sit back, relax, scroll and chortle.

Jedi Master attacked by Sith Lord in own backyard

Star Wars comes to Holyhead as Darth Vader strikes back in Jedi's back garden

A Star Wars fan got closer to his idols than he would perhaps have liked when he was attacked in his garden by Darth Vader.

Jedi Master Jonba Hehol - known to family and friends as Barney Jones, 36, of Holyhead - was giving a TV interview in his back garden for a documentary when a man, dressed in a black bin-bag and wearing Darth Vader's trademark shiny black helmet, leapt over his garden fence.

Wielding a metal crutch - his lightsaber presumably being in for repairs - the Sith Lord proceeded to lay about his opponent, whose Jedi powers proved inadequate for the task of defending himself.

After besting Master Hehol in single combat, Vader, who The Sun reports was under the influence of alcohol, went on to assault the camera crew and a hairdresser.

Master Hehol, a hairdresser, who founded the first-ever British Jedi Church in loving homage to the world-famous science fiction franchise with his brother Daniel, was unimpressed by the revenge of the Sith.

"This wasn't a joke. This was serious," he said.

Police are investigating a claim of assault.

The Jedi "religion" was born as a joke in the 2001 census, when almost 400,000 people claimed to believe in the Jedi faith.

Based on the teachings of Yoda, the crinkly green dwarf of the films, the "church" has a branch in Florida and plans to open another in the Philippines.

Coolest Star Wars Apparel Ever

Cardboard Regatta won by Star Destroyer!

The city of Helena, MT holds an annual Cardboard Regatta in Spring Meadow Lake. The Regatta is a fund raiser for a non-profit organization that helps people with disabilities, and in order to generate competitive interest local stores and restaurants donate gift certificates as prizes.

The only real rule is that a boat must be made entirely of duct-tape and cardboard (various other materials can be used but only in small amounts). The boats are first judged on their originality which is then followed by the races.

A six man team consisting of Dylan Smith, Matthew Taylor, Justin Harvey, Kevin Ward, Taylor McCormack and Beav Murnion built the Imperial Star Destroyer and completely... destroyed the competition!

"We basically won every prize they could throw at us, including victory over our competitors and the shocked looks carved into their faces. All-in-all, with a cardboard Star Destroyer, that I kicked across a lake, with a total cost of roughly $20 to build, we landed ourselves nearly $400 in various gift certificates."

Star Wars according to a 3 year old

Star Wars according to a 3 year old.

02/26/08 Update: Wow. What was expected to be a short movie that would circulate within a small circle of friends has turned into something much more very quickly. I'm thrilled that so many people have enjoyed this video but also somewhat mortified that I added this without my daughter's knowledge or consent. Maybe someday she will find some humor in it. Comments: Have been disabled. I think they have run their course. To those who have sent positive comments, thank you very much. You've made us appreciate what we have even more than we already do. To those of you who've said you've changed your mind about having children, well, have at it. :) Business inquiries/agents: Thanks for your interest. At the current time we have no intention of exposing our little one to the destroyer of youth that is the entertainment industry (with the exception of Star Wars, heh). Hopefully if she chooses to follow this path on her own someday she will find a door still open for her. Other things: She has never seen Pokemon so I don't think she's making a reference to the ball on that show. I think she just means pokey ball as in "a ball that is pokey." (And yes, I know what the pokey balls really are! Stop emailing :) ) Three year olds can't read. I'm sure there are exceptions to that rule. ------------------------------------- Here is my daughter, age 3, explaining the plot of Star Wars Episode IV. She explained the whole movie to me in much greater detail but unfortunately I didn't have the camera going. When I finally caught her talking about the movie again she delivered this truncated, but still funny, version. Edit: Thank you all for the nice comments. Maybe I will print them out for her and someday and when she's all growed up she'll get to read them herself. A little more about the video: She wasn't coached to say anything, nor was she forced to make the video. She rarely stops talking. Those of you with children understand this: sometimes it's harder to turn the faucet off than to turn the faucet on. Believe it or not, she has the seem the movie only once, and I spread it out over 3 days so it wouldn't be too much all at once for her. The video was edited to make it shorter, more cohesive and hopefully funnier. I did move some of the lines around so it would make more sense.

A Last Supper In A Galaxy Far, Far Away

Star Wars Last Supper Painting Is Made From Trillions of Captures From The Movies

This 262-megapixel (24,168 x 10,864) mosaic is made out of 69,550 screen captures from the Star Wars series. The piece was made by Avinash Arora using some mosaic software and a tweaked algorithm. As you can see it's stunning. It was printed out at 3'x6' because the printer Avinash went to was unable to open the 712-megapixel version (3GB compressed, 40GB uncompressed) he wanted to use to make a 5' x 11' print. Over two weeks in the making, Avanish spent 30+ hours adding finishing touches in the end. Congratulations, it looks great. You could probably sell these to Star Wars fanatics for a good chunk of change. It's certainly better than my Last Supper was. Which, incidentally, didn't agree with me and came back up in the middle of the night.

Come to the darkside?

I'm not ashamed to admit it... I don't care how evil this Empress is, I'd give up my rebel ways and bow down to her authority.

Rejected Star Wars Promotional Goods

Apparently these are promotional ideas that never made it into production. I've posted four of them here, but there's a few more at geekologie, here and here.

Sir Obi Wan Kenobi: The Steampunk Version

As a young man in the days of the Republic, Sir Obi Wan Kenobi was an agent for the Jedi League of Force Champions. He is intimately acquainted with the dark side of the force, as he spent nearly a decade undercover within the Sith Brotherhood, secretly trying to uncover the identity of the organization's Patriarch. His time on the dark side left permanent scars upon his soul and to this day he battles the temptation to indulge his darker emotions.

When his identity was compromised and he was forced to escape the Sith Brotherhood, Obi Wan returned to the Jedi League. Many years of service later, he was chosen to mentor a new agent to continue his undercover work: a young boy named Anakin, groomed by the League especially for this role. Obi Wan spent many years raising and training the boy, but when the time came for Anakin to infiltrate the Brotherhood he was overwhelmed and seduced by the power it offered him. He ultimately betrayed Obi Wan and the League, forcing Obi Wan to kill him. Whatever remained of Anakin after that battle became the creature known as Lord Vader.

Obi Wan has spent the last twenty years living as a hermit on Tatooine, hidden from the Empire, studying the secrets of the Force and keeping watch over a child he swore an oath to protect.

Own it!

I got to see it. What a blast! I'm not a Family Guy fan. That is to say, I don't go out of my way to see an episode of Family Guy. If I catch some of it on the box I'll laugh. This however, is a must-see. If you have have the vaguest of familiarities with the characters of Family Guy it'll be enough to LOL...

And here's some desktop wallpapers if you're into that sort of thing...

Chewie and Han: 800 x 600, 1024 x 768, 1600 x 1200

C3P0 and R2D2: 800 x 600, 1024 x 768, 1600 x 1200

...Not long ago, in a galaxy not far enough away...

Hey, while you're at Amazon buying the Blue Harvest episode of Family Guy do yourself a favour and grab the Robot Chicken Star Wars episode. It's a must have for your collection, and there's a reference to it in the Family Guy episode.
