IT Flexibility Research Opportunities!

Interested in co-authoring on topics related to IT Flexibility?

Through my doctoral dissertation work in the area of IT Flexibility, I have developed a passion to pursue further research that would help to create greater awareness within the industry and academic community regarding the meaning, value, and need for IT flexibility, and ultimately for the factors and operational constructs that could be used to measure IT flexibility (or inflexibility) within an organization as a possible reflection as to the level of IT effectiveness in place (i.e., the ability of IT supply to respond to [changes in] business demand).

I am actively seeking scholars, at all levels, to join me in this endeavor. If interested, please send me a note! Some of the topics that I am currently researching, or seeking co-authoring relationships with are:

- Building a conceptual model among IT flexibility and IT management dimensions
- The IT-business equilibrium model: Understanding the dynamics between business demand and IT supply
- A theoretical model for measuring IT flexibility
- IT outsourcing: Assessing the relationship between people and process flexibility
- IT flexibility and operational sustainability
- Understanding IT Flexibility Relative the Four Domain Architecture Model (Iyer & Gottlieb, 2004)
- Understanding IT Flexibility Relative to the Rank Equilibrium Model: Exploring the Five Attributes of Innovation and Rate of Adoption (McGriff, 2001)

People Flexibility vs Process Flexibility for Outsourced Services and Systems

As an extension to my doctoral dissertation on the relationship between IT flexibility and IT Effectiveness, it occurred to me that one of the reasons why IT outsourcing appears to be having difficulty experiencing sustained success is that while outsourcing increases flexibility associated with the people dimension of IT management (with corresponding cost reductions), in reality, the process dimension experiences decreased flexibility, in that, the outsourcer is now at the mercy of the outsourced vendor, who leverages standardized processes, systems, etc. to achieve optimal cost efficiencies and reduced operating margins. It is because of this increased rigidity (decreased flexibility) in the process dimension, that business leaders become disenfranchised as to the benefits associated with outsourcing, based on the people dimension alone.

Therefore, the poll question for consideration is as follows:
