Chuck Roast Italian Beef Recipe

Serves 12

4 pounds Beef Chuck Roast, (trimmed of fat)
1 small onion, sliced
1 10 ounce can beef broth
1 - 7 ounce package of dry Italian style dressing mix
1 small jar of pepperoncini peppers with juice
1 to 2 loaves of French bread (depending on size)
Sliced Provolone or Mozzarella Cheese

1. Place roast with sliced onions into slow cooker.
2. In a bowl, combine beef broth and Italian dressing mix and pour over roast.
3. Pour jar of pepperoncinis and juice over roast.
4. Cover and cook on low for nine hours.
5. Remove lid and shred beef with two forks removing any residual fat (if there is any).
6. Serve over French bread with toppings of mozzarella, provolone or cheddar cheese.

Ideal Toppings for Italian Beef

undefinedSome of the best toppings for Italian beefs include gravy, hot peppers or giardinera, and cheeses. The hot peppers may be a mild zesty pepperoncini or the fiery hot giardinera. The cheese toppings for Italian beefs are typically a healthy slice of mozzarella, provolone or cheddar. The sandwich gets a definite boost if the cheese topped sandwich gets melted under a broiler for a minute.

When eating an Italian beef, one must also decide on whether he or she prefers the sandwich "dry" or "wet". The dry Italian beef is simply inserting the beef (strained of juices) into the bun and serving outright. Those that love a messy but tastier Italian beef will order the sandwich wet as the entire sandwich is dunked in juices and served as such. Though the wet version is tastier, the meal will require several napkins and perhaps additional plates or wrappers to catch all juice.

THIS is the next recipe I'm trying. I bet any leftovers would freeze well enough too.
