The iTheatre Video Glasses or 80" Virtual Video Glasses themselves have 2 very small screens with one dedicated to each eye that are built into the hinge area which project video onto your eye via a pair of prisms located right in front of your eyes.

The prisms are set in a way that makes the image appear much further away and much larger than it actually is -- the designers of these astonishing video glasses say that the video image looks like it's playing on 120 cm screen being viewed from about 2 m away though after we spent time with the iTheatre Video Glasses it did feel more like it was closer to 1 m away yet it was still comfortable and easy to watch.


In any case the fact that your eyes are not being forced to focus on something that is only 2 cm way, I found that you can easily wear these video glasses for extended periods of time with out experiencing any eyestrain.

The designers advertised that you will get around four hours of usage between charges and my testing confirmed that to be true: I watched a very long movie continuously over about three hours and 50 minutes of usage before the iTheatre Video Glasses battery fails. Of course, the iPod's battery may go flat before that which depends on a lot of factors.

With the itheatre Video Glasses you are able to see things around you and not be totally enclosed so you can actually be out doing things and at the same time have a video or a movie playing.


I tested them out on the streets by asking people to guess whether I was paying attention to them, or to watching the video that was playing in my itheatre Video Glasses, only 50% of people guessed which one.

The fact that you are able to engage in fairly vigorous activity and still watch the video, opens up the possibility of using them while at the gym, out and about exercising, or even just pottering around the house doing various mundane chores or tasks.

A word of caution though because the glasses projected very bright image onto your eyes, they do tend to make you look quite scary and, frankly, more than a little bit daemonic if you use your itheatre video glasses in the dark.

As far as the image quality and performance is concerned of the itheatre Video Glasses is concerned, we found the virtual image on the video glasses screen is not quite as good as the real world image, however the resolution is a very respectable 640 x 480 pixels, which makes the itheatre Video Glasses lower resolution than the real-life TV. Yet the 640 x 480 resolution is certainly higher than any of the portable media devices such as the iPod or iPhone.

In comparing the visual quality of the itheatre Video Glasses I found that the color compared to that of some of the other media players like iPod or iPhone was not quite as vibrant however once you begin watching and become engrossed in the video or movie you tend not to notice that as much until you compare them side by side which you would be very unlikely to do.
