Its not Dunkin Donuts

My version of Dunkin Donuts Creamed filled donuts!

I love Dunkin Donuts!! One of my favorite memories is when I was a child living up north and my step father use to run the projectors at the Drive in Theaters. On nights when they would run "All-Night" Movie specials, come dawn they would give out FREE Dunkin Donuts and coffee!

I was not real fond of the jelly filled donuts, but oh my goodness I loved the cream filled donuts. They had vanilla, strawberry and chocolate and I promise I was like a little piggy wanting the chocolate cream filled ones.

So this is my version of Dunkin Donuts cream filled donuts, except they are not donuts they are cupcakes, and they are not loaded with tons of fat from the filling but instead filled with my version of cream filling.

Let's Get Started

type=textWhen I found what the filling was made from inside the donuts at Dunkin Donuts I was stocked. Back a few years ago, I use to work with a baker in a cafeteria I worked in and she taught me a lot included some of the unhealthy ingredients inside some of the foods I loved, especially the donuts.
But since that time, the fillings inside of the donuts was almost non-existence when I would treat myself to one. When I was a child the cream filling was very abundant almost to the point too much (if that is possible). So I decided to find a way to compromise and created my own version!

Start with some regular cupcakes. Again, try to use only egg whites and use canola oil. This helps with not cutting calories but cuts down on cholesterol as well.

While the cupcakes are cooling, start making your filling. To the sake of this lens, I made a small batch because I had another lens already started for the Cupcake Club so I needed to divide my cupcakes so I would have enough for both lenses.

The Filling!!

type=textI use Cool Whip Lite. It has 0 Sodium, 2 Tablespoons has 20 calories and it has 1g of Sugar.

Add your cool whip to the bowl and add one of powdered sugar. You may have to add more because you are looking for a thick consistency but not as thick as regular frosting. When you get it the thickness you want, divide into thirds if you want to make vanilla, chocolate and strawberry or make a whole batch of whichever one you want.

For the vanilla, if you have them add some vanilla beans or a little vanilla extract.

For the Chocolate, add 60% coco powder

For the Strawberry, add chopped up strawberry and some cinnamon. For the strawberry you may have to add more powdered sugar because strawberries hold so much water it will make your cream too thin.

Add each cream to a separate baggie and set in the refrigerator until the cupcakes are completely cooled.

Cut out a small center..

type=textYou can make these as big or small as you want. For the sake of this lens I did a middle size hole. I used a small knife and just cut out some of the center of the cupcake. SAVE the center because you can make cake balls!

Snip your baggie with the filling and fill the holes.

Sprinkle the top with powder sugar and for the chocolate add some chocolate shavings and for the strawberry garnish with sliced strawberries.

And there my friend, you can have a Dunkin Donut Cream Filled Donut that has been revised for a healthier note and it is a cupcake! Enjoy!!

Pass the cupcakes please. Sounds yummy. I grew-up on Dunkin Donuts and haven't had any in a long, long time. I would only get the cream filled ones.
