Refugee Week 2010

I Can Help And We All Can!
Maybe you don't even know this!
It is Refugee Week 2010, and also this valuable year British Red Cross is actually aimed at the problem of destitution amongst asylum seekers in the united kingdom. A current poll, commissioned by- the British Red Cross, came across a large number of people that disagreeing, having adverse viewpoints as well as too little comprehension of the actual legal meaning of asylum.
You can see photos from the performance in our Refugee Week 2010 set on Flickr
.

Refugee Week 2010 takes place from 14 to 20 June.

So Much We Don't Realise!

This is one of hundreds of events across the UK as part of Refugee Week 2010.
Even though 89% efficiently stated the meaning of "asylum seeker" as a person running persecution inside his or her own countries, 28% continues to believe an asylum seeker is actually somebody who has arrived here in UK, to find work against the law.

If You And I Can Help They Can Have Enough Money To Eat!

We Don't Look But We All Can See The Refugees!

Do You Know How Refugees Really Live?

57% believed that asylum seekers have been offered coupons to pay for their surviving costs as much as one hundred pounds per week also with 14% of people believing the actual once a week sum was more than one hundred pounds.

They Don't Want To Be There!

Is It Easy To Turn Your Face And Pretend Refugees Are Not There?

But Not Everything Is As You Really Believe!

Refugees In Britain Feel Invisible Because People Like You And Me Choose Not To See Them.

No one can see me!

But the real truth is, asylum seekers get housing as well as vouchers of only £35 weekly. Declined asylum seekers on the contrary, don't have any assistance whatsoever. What Can we get for £35 that could feed us all week? Can you live on that money? I can't!

Could You Live Like A Refugee?

Look Beyond the Label.

We Are Lucky! Do They Know What Lucky Feels Like?

They Need Us!

This particular year's Look Beyond the Label advertising campaign is actually fronted through a great interactive viral video clip presenting the Hollywood celebrity Dougray Scott and the singer Karen David as well as stand up comedian Stephen K Amos. The actual "Look Beyond the Label" video clip
is hosted using a Facebook application, in which many people may click "like" in order to vote to end the destitution here in England. Followers may also share the particular application independently on their Facebook profiles, create responses displaying their own help, or even click through in order to browse additional refugee reports.

While We Sleep In Our Nice Bed, Many Refugees Don't Have One To Sleep!

Countless individuals that have turned up here lately, being refugees currently have a whole lot give - however refugees are not permitted to give back anything at all. Alternatively, most are pushed in to destitution: being homeless so close to malnourishment. No one cares if they are doctors, teachers or have anything at all to offer in return. Refugees want to give something back, but they are not allowed.
Why?????
Why can't Refugees work? Why can't they have a normal life?

This is so easy for all of us, we have a home, we have a family, we have food! Do you ever wonder what would be like if you had nothing at all? Try to imagine how hard life must be, what is it like to wake up in the morning and have no where to go, no one to talk to, and nothing to do. Is like the only thing that makes you realise you are alive is your heart beat because everything else seems dead.

Based On Feedback Of Refugee Week 2010

"Really useful, enjoyable and thought provoking."

Has your understanding of asylum seekers and refugees increased as a
result of this event?
YES = 90%
NO = 10%

A refugee is a person who "owing to well-founded fear of being persecuted for reasons of race, religion, nationality, membership of a particular social group or political opinion, is outside the country of his nationality and is unable or, owing to such fear, is unwilling to avail himself of the protection of that country." (from the 1951 Convention Relating to the Status of Refugees)
No one likes or chooses to be a refugee. Being a refugee means more than just being a foreigner. It means living in exile and often depending on others for basic needs such as food, clothing and shelter.
During Refugee Week 2010 they met many people who have now settled in Leeds and who are working hard to give something back to the communities that have helped them here.

Arami Sharif is one of those people. Having arrived in the UK as a teenager she is now setting up an organisation called Independent Somali Women and Children.

This is a very powerful lens, it reaches into the heart and compels me to do something, not matter how big or how small. We can all do our part.

Very well done lens on an important topic that we just seem to ignore most of the time. There is much that we can do to help in whatever small way. Thanks for putting this together to educate and to help the less fortunate!

There are so many people who suffer the world over. Homeless and poor are in every little town and village. We can each do something, even if the only thing is handing out a sandwich or a bottle of water.
