It's a Burl in Kerby, OR

It isn't very often that you think of stopping in a shop, as something that you would recommend to the World. However there is this little place in Kerby Oregon, that needs to be on the "Must See" list when traveling through Oregon. It is called "It's a Burl"

I think as you look through the pictures below you will understand why it is on my "Must See List" for travel in Oregon!

Burlwood's are often described as exotic woods due to their distinctive marking. The woods they use are Black Oak, Black Walnut, Buckeye, Madrone, Manzanita, Maple, Myrtle, Olive, and Redwood.

I believe they told us their are ten craftsman creating these pieces now.

From Tricycles to very unique chairs, each one absolutely unique and handcrafted entirely of this Burlwood.

Beautiful hand carved pieces

These next two are hand carved.

A gorgeous carousel horse, that just sits on the porch...how inviting it must be to children.

I love the hand carved old man with the sign that says "Oh Wow", because that is exactly what you say when you walk into the door of their shops. "Oh wow, look at that"...."Oh Wow, isn't that gorgeous!"

They have these breathtaking Benches throughout the stores, I'm told they invite you to sit in them, but they were just too beautiful to sit on for me!

Do you like to Rock?

Below is an example of a Rocking Chair and a Rocking Horse made entirely out of Burlwood. It is just amazing how they find each perfect piece to make these.

It makes you wonder, do they have something in mind when they sit down to create, or does the wood "speak" to them and invite them on their creative path?

Check out this Bicycle

The Bicycle below is made of burlwood, even down to the wheels and spokes. The license plate says "It's a Burl" on it.

Below these two is a gorgeous chair, smoothed to the beautiful soft inviting shine.

If you can talk yourself into leaving the shops, then take a walk around the entire grounds.

They allow you to watch them work, or explore the treehouses, with their cozy little swings below.

    It's a Burl is one of those places that catches your eye as you drive through. Usually you would just keep driving but you are automatically compelled to turn around and stop. My advise - STOP... My wife and I spent our 1st anniversary in Crescent City by way of Grants Pass and down. We talked to the owners here and one of the artists ended up giving us this piece of cut out that he could not use. Beautiful piece.

    I live in Oregon but I've never been to Kerby! They do make some beautiful art with burls!

    Great pictures! I love to stop here on my way to Medford. Recently they've added a self-contained waterfall and colored the water (it was purple last time I looked) - it's quite striking as you drive by. We stop here to buy wood for some of our projects (not the cutting boards, though) and I always enjoy seeing the art. Nice lens!
