The IWC started life in 1868 when an american decided to found a watch factory in switzerland to supply the USA with watch movements. In 1880 the name of the International Watch Company started being used. The the late 1890's Germany was the most popular country wanting IWC watches. In 1944 a mistake by the American airforce the factory was bombed but the bomb failed to detonate and so the factory survived.

In the 1970's Swiss watchmaking was in chaos but this did not affect the IWC and in 1973 they had their most successful post war year. In 2000 they wished to expand their markets and opened more outlets in the US this was to supplement their already successful markets in the Far East, Switzerland and Germany.
