Interview with J Lynn

Q. Who would you say your music is most influenced by?
A. There are many singers I feel have influenced me over the years. When I was little, it was all Celine Dion, but as I have gotten older, I have grown to love singers like Mariah Carey, Jennifer Hudson, and Beyonce.

Q. When did you know that you wanted to spend your life pursuing a musical career?
A. Well, I have been performing all my life but I decided my sophomore year of high school that music was where I wanted to take my career...When you honestly do not want to do anything else but music, you know that is the right thing for you!

Q.Do you have any moments of stage fright?
A. Always...There is always that rush of adrenaline you get when you step on stage that I feel keeps me going every time.

Q. Do you have any embarrassing moments that occurred while you were on stage performing? What happened?
A. Not really for me...I did a performance once with a friend of mine and he grabbed the mic from me six measures too early and then realized he forgot the words, so he ended up handing me the mic again and I had no clue where we were in he music so I started making up stuff...Then, another time I did one of my first big shows almost a year ago when I had lost my voice and about halfway through my third and fourth song I would go to sing and nothing would come out.

Q. Your songs tend to deal with relationships. Do all of your lyrics come from personal experiences?
A. Most of them do..I have been through a lot in my life and I like to sing and perform songs for people that I can relate to and I can tell kinda my life story to them.

Q. What or who inspires you?
A. Singers that just really sing from their heart. I feel that people forget that it isn't always just about having good technique when you sing; it's about the amount of emotional involvement you have with the song as well...Jennifer Hudson is a very emotional singer I love watching and listening to her perform.

Q. Out of the songs you have recorded, which one do you consider your favorite?
A. probably "Broken Promises". That was the first song that I had actually ever written about a past experience with a guy who really isn't worth it now, but at the time I thought meant a lot to me...I recorded that song actually about three separate times because I kept changing how I wanted the ending.

Q. Who do you consider your "biggest fan"?
A. Probably my mother and my father.. my father, for putting me through music school and telling me to keep going and my mother for going to every performance I have had since I was little...I also have a great amount of support from my friends.

Q. When you are not writing songs, recording music, or performing what do you do with your time?
A. I try to work out as much as I can to stay in shape and I just love being with my friends.

Q. I know that you have spent a lot of time studying opera, what made you choose to record this genre of music?
A. I just grew up admiring Mariah and Whitney and R&B has helped me come into my own. It is where I am very comfortable and it was a genre I wasn't so sure with at first but I had a lot of people that had faith in me and that were willing to help me.

Q. Where would you like to see yourself ten years from now? What about twenty?
A. Hopefully with several albums out, a Grammy, and lots of performing experience.. at twenty...hopefully I will still be singing and married with kids.

Q. Do you have any plans to make a music video anytime in the near future?
A. I would love to. My next step at the moment is to finish my album which then I will be selling on Itunes (hopefully by July) and then trying to do a tour sometime in the near future.

Q. Anything else you would like your fans to know?
A. The future is limitless; expect a lot more from me. ;)
