John F Kennedy, The Target!
For someone, anyone, to think this was the act of one angry, deranged, misguided, or self deluded (poor me, I'm disenfranchised) individual, that person would have to be either; A.) Stupid: Which I will not attribute to anyone I do not know (or at least haven't heard speak, or seen write).
B.) Naive: Someone who is able to swallow, still, after all these years, the Warren Commission Report. I mean, how many people have to come forward to debunk that thing? Well, it did get one thing right...John Fitzgerald Kennedy, 35th President of The United States was killed that day at Dealey Plaza. By who, exactly, is something we will probably never know.

If anyone is crazy enough to want to kill a president of the United States, he can do it. All he must be prepared to do is give his life for the president's;

We were, however, still relatively naive as a nation in 1963; even after dropping the bomb on Japan in the second world war, and fighting in Korea...but after JFK, Martin Luther King, and Bobby Kennedy...all the Vietnam war shown on the nightly news, I guess cynicism was the way an entire nation collectively chose to protect itself from whatever came next.
I realize we've had it relatively easy here in America (9-11 not withstanding), compared to other nations, especially those in Africa and the Middle East, when it comes to national tragedy. Having an entire ocean as a buffer helped in the early years of our history. I've read much about Pearl Harbor, and I am certainly not trying to lessen the impact that event had on us as a nation.
But that event had the opposite effect than Kennedy's assassination (for obvious reasons). The Kennedy assassination took what ever wind we may have had out of our sails. Then you add to it the years of LBJ, Richard Nixon, and Watergate.
It was like someone throwing an ice-cold glass of water on you to wake you up. It will get the job done, but the consequences won't be pretty

People "still" want to know!
History is the one thing that never gets old...! What?
Think about it...time doesn't matter; hundreds, or in some cases, thousands of years worth of time goes by, yet people still discuss certain events as though they happened yesterday.
You may be sitting there shaking your head saying..."Da! Of course time goes by."
But if you think about my opening sentence, about history never getting old, I think you may (if you haven't already) begin to grasp what I'm talking about. Sure events that took place in the past, whether it be the recent past, or hundreds, if not thousands of years ago could be construed as i> But to people who follow history, or particular events in history, it may just as well have happened this morning.
Yet, there are times when things happen, or certain notable people do something that is news worthy, that other people will talk about it, or at least notice it enough to write it down in the annuls. But, let a little time go by, like say, a week or so...and those same people that were talking, and/or writing about it just a short time ago will say this; "That is such old news" or, "That is ancient history."
Which brings me, at long last, to my point! The JFK assassination will not go away. Of course, because it happened to a sitting U.S. President, but also because of all the mystique, and cloak and dagger surrounding the case. And lets not forget the all important human element. JFK was a young president, the youngest, in fact. He was also a father of young children, his life was, well..."Camelot," and the American people felt a connection of sorts to that family, what with all the photo's of Jack and the kids, and Jack, Jackie, and the kids. Not to mention, JFK had just pulled the U.S. and the world's collective fat out of the fire during the "Cuban Missile Crisis."
Look, I'm not naive, I know what Kennedy was doing behind Jackie's back...in fact I'm quite sure Jackie knew precisely what he was up to also, and I am in no way excusing him from those inexcusable actions. But there is NO WAY any one can compare a JFK administration with one of say, um...Bill Clinton? JFK had greatness written all over him, from his war record to his presidency.
You know what Clinton had all over him? High taxes, the technology boom which resulted in an unbelievable economy, peace-time, and Monica Lewinski.

Some Of The Best EVER Spoken
Khrushchev reminds me of the tiger hunter who has picked a place on the wall to hang the tiger's skin long before he has caught the tiger. This tiger has other ideas.
I'm always rather nervous about how you talk about women who are active in politics, whether they want to be talked about as women or as politicians.
I think this is the most extraordinary collection of talent, of human knowledge, that has ever been gathered at the White House - with the possible exception of when Thomas Jefferson dined alone.
A man does what he must - in spite of personal consequences, in spite of obstacles and dangers and pressures - and that is the basis of all human morality.
A nation that is afraid to let its people judge the truth and falsehood in an open market is a nation that is afraid of its people.
I just received the following wire from my generous Daddy; Dear Jack, Don't buy a single vote more than is necessary. I'll be damned if I'm going to pay for a landslide.
If we cannot now end our differences, at least we can help make the world safe for diversity.
It is an unfortunate fact that we can secure peace only by preparing for war.
Let the word go forth from this time and place, to friend and foe alike, that the torch has been passed to a new generation of Americans - born in this century, tempered by war, disciplined by a hard and bitter peace.

These are random photos from Flickr. The photos I have cannot be shown here because of graphic nature of them.
Note:When I created this lens I could have sworn I made the rating an R, but evidently it didn't take or I messed up. Since this is my 2nd attempt at a JFK lens for the same problem (the rating) I doubt I screwed it up twice.
