Lando freed her and Rystall's travels eventually brought her to Tatooine. The third singer is a Twi'lek named Lyn Me, recognized by her people as the greatest dancer out of all Twi'lek clans. Together the trio of the singers/dancer helped the band secure lucrative, extended contract playing in Jabba's court until a visit from the Jedi Luke Skywalker caused the Hutt's criminal empire to come crashing down. One of the more prolific--and proficient--Star Wars authors, Kevin J. Anderson, edits and contributes to this anthology of ... well, tales from Jabba's palace. Each of the 19 short tales focuses on a different personality, from the rancor keeper to Salacious Crumb, putting faces and facts on the internecine intrigue swirling around everyone's favorite Huttese crime lord. (As it turns out, you can find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy than Mos Eisley.) Find out how Bib Fortuna hoped to overthrow Jabba, or hear the philosophical ramblings of a not-so-bright teenage skiff guard. Or, perhaps best, learn how Boba Fett escaped the Sarlacc in the Great Pit of Carkoon. Style, mood, and quality vary by author, but these Tales are mostly funny and mostly well done, including those by Anderson, Star Trek author A.C. Crispin, Nebula-winner George Alec Effinger, and Hugo-winner Timothy Zahn. --Paul Hughes

Sort of funny and fairly bloody, but not bloody enough to be a caricature of violence, Jabba the Hutt: The Art of the Deal is probably one of the more lackluster Dark Horse titles. Bringing together four previously published comics--The Gaar Suppoon Hit, The Hunger of Princess Nampi, The Dynasty Trap, and Betrayal--this collection is an exercise in Jabba worship, a worthy pursuit to be sure but one deserving of more inspired hands. True to its title, the plot line revolves around Jabba's byzantine wheeling and dealing, but the clumsy writing and cartoony art end up making the Hutt look more silly than sinister. A good one for the kids if it weren't such a gorefest. Check out Gorga the Hutt in Dark Horse's top-drawer Boba Fett: Death, Lies, and Treachery for your Hutt fix. --Paul Hughes
