Jack Nicklaus vs Tiger Woods

Jack Nicklaus turned pro in 1961 and won his first PGA tournament by beating Arnold Palmer in the US open the very next year. This was the beginning of a historic rivalry unlike any golf had ever seen before. Between 1962 and 1967 he won 7 major tournaments. In 1968 golf implemented its world player rankings system and Jack was ranked number 1 form 1968-1977 and probably would have been number one the previous 5 years if the system were in place. He played his career against some of the best players of all time; Arnold Palmer, Gary Player, Tom Watson, and Seve Ballesteros. In 1980 he overtook Booby Jones for most career majors with 13 and ended his career with 18 major titles.

Tiger woods turned pro in 1996 after a unprecedented amateur career where he dominated just about every event he entered. That year he won two tournaments and was named the PGA Tour rookie of the year and Sports Illustrated sportsman of the year. The following year Eldrick would win 4 tour events included the Masters and became the fastest player to be ranked number one in the world and be named PGA player of the year. To date Tiger has won 14 major titles (4 behind Jack) and held the worlds number one ranking for longer than any other player in tour history. Until 2009 Tiger Wood was somewhat untouchable on and off the course, until rumors of infidelity started swirling and his swings started fading. Still trailing Jack by for majors he will need to get his game back on track to catch the Golden Bear.
