There is something I Iove about this print. The name of the print along with the moody coloring and the woman walking along the street and rivers edge, really makes you wonder about her life.

She's just living her everyday life, as Vettriano so aptly called the painting, "Just Another Day". So what's on her mind, is she generally happy, or is she just having a bad day, is she feeling incomplete, or is she merely tired?

A "Long Time Gone" features an older couple embracing in front of the Methil Power Station. This Fife Landmark was due to be demolished, and as you may have already read, Jack Vettriano's home town is Methill, Fife. It's easy to see why the power station would have some sentimental value and be featured in his art. In my opinion, the blue collar nature of the picture depicts a beautiful love amidst the struggles in an everyday real life that many people are living at this moment.

Again, this is only my opinion, but what I find appealing in this painting is that in this world of the media constantly promoting luxury living, luxurious items and super-beauty, this couple represents the larger majority of struggling working people, who no matter their age, love deeply.

From what I've read, understanding Jack Vettriano's inspiration is not a complicated feat. Being that he is a self-taught, self-made man, real life finds it's way onto his canvas. That realism allows you to feel the story he's painted, or imagine the story as you feel the painting.

He is said to have a lifelong obsession with provocative woman dressed in stockings, bright red lipstick and low cut tops. You'll see some of his art based on this.

Also look for his art to reflect another interest of his, "nostalgia" - He often paints places of the past, (sometimes from his past), dance halls, beach fronts and railroad stations.
