Quick tips on owning a JRT

  1. Taking a dog to obedience is a great way to bond with your dog and understand the way a dogs mind works.

Your dog is not a Teddy Bear, you are a human and it is a dog. You can be kind and offer affection but don't overdo it. Although all mammals share physiological things in common, many have distinct behaviour based on instincts. If you can learn to understand what your dog needs for it to understand you, it will feel secure and cared for.

A dog will give you so much in return for the care and training you give it.

Jack Russell Terriers are great dogs

although not for everybody

As with all breeds it is best to do your research and try to match your dog to your lifestyle.

A bit laid back? maybe a rescue Greyhound would be nice.

JRTs are really attentive breed that will want to be around you and join in everything as well as prompt you to get up and off your tuffet, well maybe a Jack Russell could work for you.

Bottom line, research and choose carefully, all dogs are a committment and they don't always land on their feet it they are re-homed, especially if not trained, spayed or neutered.

A lot of this is covered in my website already, and as time goes by I will bring across key elements to share here with you.

These two are great pals, both have been de-sexed, but they still have most of the good characteristics of thier gender without any of the disadvantages.
Gracie is a typical female JRT and doesn't let Maxi get away with too much, although Maxi is Alpha sometimes I thinks she just lets him think he is the boss.
