James Herbert Horror

Ranked #13,210 in Books, Poetry & Writing, #494,447 overall

Abandon All Hope All Ye Who Enter Here....

James Herbert is England's top selling horror writer, and in my humble opinion the best horror writer in the world. Compared to Stephen King Herberts books are darker and more sexually explicit, often with a faster pace of events.
He is particularly good at writing ghost stories whilst managing to not fall into any of the cliches of the genre, and has about 3 'haunted house' type stories. He is also very good at making everyday things which we are all familiar with appear in a much darker and more chilling light, as he does in 'Rats', which has been the cause of many a phobia.

This is possibly the best book I've ever read. Somehow it manages to perfectly combine all the chilling darkness and the sense of intimations of evil that you would hope to find in a supernatural horror novel with a rare sense of magical fantasy featuring water nymphs and other 'woodland folk' as perfect innocence meets absolute evil in this moder fairytale.
