Character in James Pattersons' Books
Cross is a detective and psychologist living and working in the Southeast quadrant of Washington, D.C. He works in the homicide division of the Metropolitan Police Department of the District of Columbia (MPD), but eventually becomes an Senior Agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). After his stint with the FBI, Alex returns to private psychology practice, but continues to consult for the MPD and the FBI as needed, ultimately rejoining the MPD as a special consultant to the Major Case Squad.
Patterson portrays Dr. Cross as a lonely individual, yet he is a model father and is quite empathetic in dealing with the public. Despite the fact that he is well educated and makes a decent living, he chooses to continue residing in the Southeast quadrant of D.C. He is very involved in the community, most notably volunteering at St. Anthony's Parish in his neighborhood.
Alex Cross is a fictional character in a series of books by novelist James Patterson.

I think that James Patterson has it down to pat. I love the way he sets up his plots and the strong pull all his books have. Once you have started to read or listen, you can hardly stop. This, to me is great fiction and he is certainly one of the top wirters we have today!

James Patterson is an award-winning American author. Formerly he was the chairman of advertising company J. W. Thompson in the early 1990s, Patterson came up with the slogan "Toys R Us Kid."
Shortly after his success with 'Along Came A Spider', he retired from the firm and devoted his time to being a writer. The novels featuring his character, Alex Cross, a forensic psychologist formerly of the Washington, D.C. Police Department and Federal Bureau of Investigation, now working as a private psychologist and government consultant, are the most popular books among Patterson readers and the top selling US Detective series in the past ten years
In 2007, one of every fifteen hardcover novels sold was a James Patterson title- totaling an estimated 16 million books sold last year in North America alone.
