An Author of Great Epics
James Clavell wrote historical fiction. His epic books took place in Asia in various time periods. Shogun (1975) is probably his most famous work, however each of the others in his incredible "Asian Saga" is noteworthy and definitely worth reading.
His other works in the Asian Saga include:

Gaijin (1993)
Noble House (1981)
Whirlwind (1986)
He also wrote and directed a number of films including
The Fly, The Great Escape and To Sir, With Love.
James Clavell at a Glance
James Clavell, born Charles Edmund Dumaresq Clavell (10 October, 1924 ? 7 September, 1994) was a British (later naturalised American) novelist, screenwriter, director and World War II veteran and prisoner of war. Clavell is best known for his epic Asian Saga series of novels and their televised adaptations, along with such films as The Great Escape and To Sir, with Love.

3. He creates a beautiful and detailed account of what life must have been like from multiple perspectives in the various locations and time periods that he writes about.
