And don't forget to go to the top and rate this lens please and add me to your lens roll! Leave me a note and I'll visit yours. It always helps to rate each other and stop by to visit. My Slice of the Pie
"There is no try"
I finally carved out some time in my schedule to start a Blog on Blogger this week so I added it to my link list below.Feel free to visit and leave me your comments, thoughts, and remarks. I've only posted twice so far but it's going to be fun I can see that and fun it what I like in my business!
I've spent alot of time on Picasa working on pictures this week. If you haven't got Picasa downloaded I highly suggest it. It's a simple program and does wonders for your pictures. Especially if you have a digital that doesn't have the 8 to 10 pixels recommended for posting to a webpage. I'm impressed!
It seems like I keep running into Google account user, Google account user. Good thing I opened that GMail accout. If you haven't opened one you may as well. Picasa requires it too. And they are Vista compatable!
Organization folders, and Web Albums are all great on Picasa too!
Back to Blogs: this is one tool to get you listed in the Search Engines so if you don't have one get one. Then submit the link along with the rest of your links to the Search Engines, and to Technorati, Daypop, Blogdex, or any other blog directory you can find. It doesn't have to be about business.
Your favorite hobbies, interests, a photo blog, anything can be a blog, just do one. It's your name your branding. Just do it. There is no try. Jamie
New Website Tips
After you've launched your new website...
Okay, you've worked hard on your new website and you got it launched so now what? Where is it? When you look for it in Google it's not there! This is where the work starts! YOU have to start doing things to get yourself out there and on the map, so to speak.
First, go to your website and write down the url for every page. Then you need to enter these into the Seach Engine links one page a day until you've enter them all. Then wait 40 days and do it again. Make sure you have ALL your pages. By this I mean, web pages, blogs conneted with your site, Squidoo pages if connected or related to your business. Squidoo pages have helped people I know get recognized in the search engines. Now here are the links I use:
www.google.com/addurl/?continue=/addurl
http://siteexplorer.search.yahoo.com/submit
http://beta.search.msn.com/docs/submit.aspx
www.alexa.com
These are all FREE! You can pay for SEO but why. Just do one page and see what happens. It may take a few weeks even but it will happen!
Also make sure that you continue to do this every 30 days or so until you see your web stats where you want them. High!
Small Business Advantages
Getting Your EIN
Okay what's an EIN? It's an Employer Identification Number. Do you need one? Well that's up to you. Want to run a CafePress Shop? The answer is yes.Want to pay your taxes and get all the advantages you can and not have to worry about the possibility of the IRS coming back on you one day to audit you? Maybe you should talk to your accountant.
Last year I started my small MLM business in my home and all I needed was my state tax ID. After about 25 phone calls before I found the right branch it, cost me $25 and I didn't collect any state taxes since I didn't sell anything. But it did lower the cost of my product from my company because they weren't required to take out the tax.
After I did my taxes this year and got to take all the wonderful federal tax deductions offered from having a home business, and further investigation I decided to get my EIN. Fascinating! Fifteen minutes on www.4.irs.gov and I had a sole proprietorship tax number.
I'm doing all of this lens on the computer I was able to purchase with my tax refund this year because the IRS depreciates your computer every year. My 4 year old computer I gave $1200 for, I was shocked to learn was only worth $100! I was allowed to take several things I was surprised at. Which of course was one reason I entered this wonderful world in the first place!
I highly suggest to get your EIN to cover your back if you plan on staying in your home business for any length of time or even if you are thinking of starting another. Sometimes you may not feel comfortable with where you are but it won't happen overnight. It takes time. In the meantime the tax returns will be worth it!
