One of my favorite TV chefs, Jamie Oliver is famous for his simple approach to classic recipes. Known as The Naked Chef, a reference to the food, not his appearance!
Jamie Oliver was first discovered by the media when appearing in a documentary at his workplace, The River Cafe in London. Jamie received calls from several production companies the day after the programe aired. Jamie himself says "I couldn't believe it and thought it was my mates winding me up'!
Jamie Oliver has written lots of successful cookery books, starred in his own cookery programes, launched the pioneering restaurant Fifteen, and run a campaign to dramatically improve the standard of school meals in Britain.
Jamie Oliver - The Naked Chef
British celebrity chef Jamie Oliver was born on May 27th 1975 in Clavering, Essex.Jamie Oliver helped in his parents pub restaurant The Cricketers from the age of 8. By the young age of 11, he was highly adept at vegetable prep.
In 1989,drummer Jamie Oliver formed the band Scarlet Division with best friend Leigh Haggerwood, and dreamed of pop stardom. However, by age 16, Oliver knew he wanted to be a chef, so he attended Westminster Catering College. He then studied in France.
Jamie Oliver returned to London to work as head pastry chef for Antonio Carluccio at The Neal Street Restaurant. After The Neal Street Restaurant, Oliver worked for Rose Gray and Ruth Rogers at the River Cafe for over 3 years. Jamie Oliver credits Gray and Rogers with teaching him to create the fresh and simple food which became his signature.
He got his big break when appearing in a documentary about The River Cafe. There followed a TV deal which had him starring in his own cooking programme The Naked Chef. Two highly successful seasons were filmed in 1998 and 1999.

Jamie is a Man With a Mission to Make Our Kids Food More Healthy
Jamie Oliver was very concerned about the standard of school meals in Britain so he decided to do something about it. He believes passionately that the school dinner system should offer tasty, healthy food.He was worried about the rise of obesity in children and the research which suggests that children's behavior is affected for the worse by the junk food that they eat.
Jamie Oliver started by working in one school to change the menu - with the help of now famous dinner lady Nora he battled through the changes. He realized that to get the kids to eat the food they had to learn about it first. Just taking away the junk food and offering healthy options was simply not enough.
He took a lot of time to learn how best to get the kids to stop eating the junk and move to healthy food. As you can imagine this is not easy! But it is possible with some hard work and determination!
Jamies campaign has not been easy but he caught the attention of the British government and standards have improved massively.
