Jane Austen
There are very few biographical details about the life of Jane Austen but we do know that she was mainly home schooled and had access to her father's extensive library. Her family enjoyed putting on plays as a home theatre. Anne loved to write stories from the time she was a child. Although she wrote may stories, she has become best loved for her novels.
When she was 20, Jane met and became romantically involved with a young man named Tom Lefroy but the romance ended as he was still a student and neither had any money.
She died in 1817 due to an unknown disease.
Her novels are still very popular today and have been made into many versions of TV movies and mini series. They are considered to be period dramas as they take place in a particular historical period, that of Georgian Society during the reign of King George III. Her novels are of the romance genre but they also reflect the society of pre-industrial England; the social classes, status of men and women, marriage, customs and morals. Her writings provide an historical perspective to her times.
