She enjoyed dancing, attended balls, loved the country.

1801/1805: These years were difficult one for Jane because she disliked her new environment and missed
her life in Steventon.

1805: Her father died. The family was left in financial difficulties. They have to rely on the charity of the Austen sons. They moved to Southampton (lived with her brother Frank and his wife Mary). Visited occasionally London (stayed with her brother Henry a banker).

1805: She falls in love, but the young man died. Accepted then a proposal of marriage from Harris
Bigg-Wither, but changed her mind and broke the relationship.

Jane Austen was suffering from the Addisons Disease (a tubercular disease of the kidneys). As she could not walk far, she drive out in a little donkey carriage (it can be seen at the Jane Austen Museum at Chawton).
