We Just Can't Get Enough of Mr. Darcy and Miss Bennet

Every year I rewatch all my favorite Jane Austen movies from Pride and Prejudice to Sense and Sensibility. Like Shakespeare's plays, Jane Austen has inspired many movies from her classic novel Pride and Prejudice. Here we'll review some of the most recent favorites.

The BBC Recent Version

This one made Colin Firth as an actor, but it was also the 4th version that BBC made. I watch it every year.

That Lake Scene

This famous scene was the closest BBC came to "racy and sexy."

Will BBC Keep Making More Versions?

BBC has made 4 version already. Will they make more?

Ener-G predicts:

As long as there are newcomers to Jane Austen there will be a new version of Pride and Prejudice.

AnimalHouse predicts:

I say yes old is gold!

BigGirlBlue predicts:

And I will watch them all! LOLOL

spirituality predicts:

I have only one Pride and Prejuce DVD in my house, and can't stop watching it :) so why not have several?

EelKat predicts:

yep, as long as there are girls like me, who can't get enough of Austen's men, they'll HAVE to keep making new versions!

Another Yummy Mr. Darcy

This was the second movie made about Pride and Prejudice, the first was in 1940 and had no "unpleasantness" in it. Darcy's aunt was happy for them! The director of this film wanted to keep it real...like what were the costumes and houses really like back then? It seems that everyone sat around a lot...just like now but without the the internet and texting.

Matthew Macfadyn's Moment

My vote for most romantic scene ever was Mr. Darcy in this version walking across the meadow at daylight.

Only Colin Firth for me

AnimalHouse says:

Since you don't have a choice for both then Colin it is!

BigGirlBlue says:

Colin Firth all the way. Time and again, and again, forever. :D

Love that Mathew Macfadyen

Regina says:

I like the movie version far better than the BBC. Cloin Firth just doesn't have that same shy and strong quality as the movie Mr. Darcy.

Then There Was Jane

A movie more about Jane's themes that she writes about then her actual biography. A sad ending for a great writer who couldn't be fully acknowledged in her times because of her position and gender.

What a Fabulous Spin

What a delightful surprise...6 Jane Austen novels wrapped up in one movie. Loved all these characters, especially Emily Blunt. By the way, the title for this lens comes from a line in the movie.

Who Else Is Talking About Jane?

Literary Politics: Who Would Jane Austen Vote For?
"What Would Jane Do?" is a go-to question among Austen fans. Whatever's most sensible, we assume. But if she were alive today, how would Jane vote? Would the champion of marrying for love support gay marriage? Would the advocate of a woman getting to ...
Cisco founder pens sequel to 'Pride and Prejudice'
From the Bay Area to the "northern South," as Lerner calls it, one thing has remained constant: her love of the literature of Jane Austen. After decades of reading and studying Austen's works, Lerner, 56, has published "Second Impressions," which she ...
Kim Izzo, author of "The Jane Austen Marriage Manual"
Such is the case with Kim Izzo's The Jane Austen Marriage Manual, a debut novel that brings class to the genre. I'm not going to lie. At first I was skeptical of the premise: A single, 40-year-old woman goes on a mission to prove that she, ...

I just love Jane Austen movies. I've read some of her books, but it's the films I can't get enough of. I've watched some of them a half dozen times.

I saw a BBC version of Pride and Prejudice, starring: Priscilla Morgan, Elizabeth Garvie and David Rintoul as Darcy. I don't think a Darcy who isn't proud fits the part - and this one is :)

I love Jane Austen... I will include this as a favorited lens on my lens, "Ten Must-Read Classics of Great Literature".
