Sex in Fanfiction

PG, PG-13, R or NC-17? Have your say!

Some fan themselves at the image of Lizzy and Darcy in the throes of passion while others think 'Eww! Too much detail!' Or perhaps they feel that since the original novel didn't include bedroom scenes, and since they came to fanfiction to get more time with that novel and its characters, that the sex scenes do nothing to add to the experience they are looking for.

What Do You Think About Sex Scenes in JAFF?

I like it HOT

turnip head says:

There's nothing disgusting about expressions of love. As a fan of the couple, I enjoy reading about signs of that intimacy, be it sweet glances or smoldering kisses. And, while the genteel veneer was thick in those days, these characters are very real- they are people at heart. Why pretend otherwise?

resabi says:

If Jane was writing now, I think a little genteel sex would creep into the tale. She was, really, quite down to earth. She pushed a few boundaries in her own time; it feels right that a certain amount of progress would be made in the newer tellings.

Christina says:

I think it's great in fan fiction. It spices it up and you know that Lizzy and Darcy were having sex so it just adds excitement to the story.

lola says:

In fanfic its great! of course it wouldn't suit being in Jane Austen's writing at the time.

Zoe says:

I think for it to be good, it has to be discreet. In the 19th and 18th centuries, sex carried MUCH more value than it does now ? and so it should be discreet, amongst married and in-love couples and not go into details. If it's done correctly and keeps everyone in character, it can be sweet and add a lot to the story.

I think it's GROSS

eileen_morey says:

I like it JAFF to stay true to the genre and the social mores of the era. In other words, I don't like sex scenes in JAFF... it seems to jarring and anachronistic.

Ashley says:

Nah, I like Jane Austen's stories because they are pure and actually about love, not lust.

lovrina says:

Books with sex scenes are a dime a dozen, and that's not why I read her books. I enjoy Austen's books because of the love stories are so pure.

ki says:

in the time where Lizzy and Darcy are from it not call for. they are love story is great just the way Jane say it why change what work well.

La-Laurie says:

It's just plain wrong...Jane would roll in her grave. Sexy romance novels come a dime a dozen, that is not why I read and love Jane Austen.
