About Janet Evanovich

Janet Evanovich grew up in New Jersey, just like my favorite heroin Stephanie Plum. She now resides in New Hampshire with her family. She is the recipient of numerous awards for her writing including: The Silver Dagger Award, Quill Award for Mystery-Suspense-Thriller in 2006, and Last Laugh.

She began her career writing romance novels under the pseudonym Steffie Hall. Since then she has become famous for her Stephanie Plum (bounty hunter) series. This series defines the word dysfunctional.

She has also co-wrote several novels and series with other up and coming authors. Check below for all of Janet's current and future novels. Check back often for updates on Janet, and her latest novels.

This time Vinnie's in over his head with gambling and gets kidnapped by some bad dudes. Stephanie with the help of her friends Lulu and Connie have to figure out how to get Vinnie back. Even though Vinnie isn't Stephanie's favorite person, she does owe him for giving her the bond enforcement job for all these years. Will Stephanie save Vinnie and his bail bonds business?

How It All Started

I fell in love with Janet's Stephanie Plum series about eight years ago. I belonged to a book club, and we decided to read One for the Money as one of our monthly selections. It was great! There was excitement, murder, mystery, humor, and romance all wrapped up in one book. I was hooked, I had to go on to the next one. I laughed out loud all the way through Two for the Dough, my husband thought I was nuts (he may be right, who knows?). By now he's used to it, any time I pick up one of Janet's novels, I chuckle all the way through.

This lens is dedicated to my favorite author. If you have never read anything by Janet Evanovich, pick up one of her novels, you won't stop until you have read them all.

The Story Line

In One for the Money , we are introduced to Stephanie Plum, a currently unemployed lingerie buyer. Out of food, and out of money, she goes to visit her cousin Vinnie. She blackmails Vinnie into giving her a job as a bail bondsman.

The first person she is sent to apprehend is Joe Morelli, a Trenton cop accused of shooting someone when he was off duty. Stephanie and Joe go way back. Back behind the counter at the Tasty Pastry several years before that is. Stephanie has a score to settle with Joe, and collecting the $10,000 bond in the process makes the deal even sweeter.

Apprehending Morelli turns out to be harder than Stephanie thought. When she gets on the bad side of boxer Benito Ramirez, Stephanie begins to wonder if maybe she should have just gone to work at the button factory instead.

Janet's Take on Writing In: How I Write

I love to write, and I have a novel I have been working on slowly but surely. I was thrilled when Janet published How I Write. It is a fun and interesting look into her writing style, and the knowledge she has about the publishing industry. And of course she makes it interesting with exerpts from her books to describe her points throughout.

Plum Essays

I recently had the opportunity to review Perfectly Plum: An Unauthorized Celebration of the Life, Loves and Other Disasters of Stephanie Plum, Trenton Bounty Hunter (Smart Pop series) from BenBella Books. I was a little skeptical at first, since I read the Plum novels purely for entertainment. I was worried the analysis would be negative, or that it would over analyze Stephanie's character.

I found most of the analogies very interesting. The anthology takes a look at how Stephanie's life is like that of Rex the hamster, among other things. I enjoyed how the authors worked quotes from the Plum novels and Plum cultural metaphors into their anthology.

Before Stephanie Plum

Before Janet started the Plum series, she wrote several screwball love stories. She is re- releasing these love stories with a few minor editing changes. Check these out and see if you can see where some of the Plum characters developed from. Tons of humor, and full of romance.

Janet has another series she co-writes with Charlotte Hughes. Several of the books in this series star Jamie Swift, a hard working newspaper owner/reporter, and her business partner Max, an eccentric millionaire with a super charged computerized car that talks.
