JANGO THE WONDER DOG

Dogs need care, dogs need love, dogs need attention.. We all do...But dogs repay the value often more than any human could ever. As Jose arguelles says - A dog is a psychic node of interdimensional awareness.

My good friend, partner and psychic node of inter-dimensional warmth died on March 31, 1999. He was loved by all who met him apart from the occasionally jealous monster-dog. He was a missionary of peace, a bringer of love and a natural performer on stage. Ask anyone who knew him or saw him....he had many friends both canine and human, and I thank all of those who showed him love and welcomed him into their lives, especially those who baby-sat him if I was away on tour.. As an actor Jango performed in theatre performances in Spain, Italy, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Denmark, Holland, and appeared on TV in Spain, Denmark and Switzerland. (see under right) The highlight of his famous career was during the Olympic Games in Barcelona when he was the mascot of the animation group in the Olympic Village (co- directed by Johnny and the Catalan comic Tony Alba). In the photo above left, he is wearing his I.D. pass. Every TV camera-man and newspaper-photographer present in the 'Vila Olimpica' filmed him, and articles/photos in newspapers and features on TV news-programs appeared about him across the globe. Athletes would arrive from all over the world and recognise him from a newscast in their country the day before. The painting above centre was done by me after his death. Jango was born in 1984 Seville, Spain found in the market there by Tina Grace, and died in 1999 Aarhus, Denmark.

He is buried in Denmark now, resting under his favourite tree near Stenvad. There was a tearful candle-lit buddhist ceremony in the biting March wind with Lennie and Alexander and Johnny of course as we knelt over our dear four legged friend.

GOODBYE JANGO

A Poem

I loved my dog:
Like the moon he was always there, silent, devoted, still, watching...
Together we roamed forests, traversed rivers, traipsed the Ramblas and back
By my side he bounded through fields, slid on ice, sprung manic-panicked into my foot-holes in a blizzard: He flew serenely in 'economy' and even more serenely in business class.
He hid in bags in trains and buses and in that same bag attended premiers in cinemas and in theatres, at times even getting out to study the humans in their play;
He faithfully attended prayers, constantly had old ladies and children in awe, in tears and always in love.
He entertained audiences at will, would sleep all day wrapped up if it was cold, made an abundance of babies, stole the food from my friends' cats, tolerated me making love to yet another girlfriend, would frequently push me out of bed (in revenge?)
He shielded me and protected me, repeatedly made me see my failings, made me mourn him long before he passed on, played hide-and-seek knowing full well the game we had entered...
he sat patiently in wait for me outside shops for what must have seemed doggy hours...........
once even took the train home on his own.
Jango was a messenger of love for all of us, and last night I forgot to pray for him.......

ABANDONED DOGS

a modern crime

Dogs need care, dogs need love, dogs need attention. Ever year in Spain right after Christmas abandoned dogs roam city streets - presents that have gone sour with their recipients. Jango was lucky to be picked up when he was by Tina Grace.

Many dogs and cats still yearly die sad and hungry deaths. The same is true all over the globe. Animals are beaten humiliated and tortured daily in the name of the meat industry and the fur trade.

Anyone who has ever loved a dog knows they have souls and that they are indeed our best friends. I hate it that so many are abandoned but I also have a lot of sympathy for dogs who spend most of their lives in a crate or on a chain.

I once had a dog who died of illness and since then, I've never had the courage of having another pet and be hurt again. I'm very devastated to see animals, especially dogs and cats, when they suffer and it really breaks my heart. Now, all I have of Joker, my German Shepherd, are lovable memories and lots of pictures. I even put some of his photos on my personalized dog checks and Humane Society checks and other stuff which will remind me of Joker as years go by. Will I ever overcome my hurt and get another furry friend? Your lens is very inspirational, by the way, & I thank you for it.
