Janjon Maine Coon Cats

Ranked #4,659 in Pets & Animals, #117,363 overall

Meet Janjon!

Maine Coon Cats are among the most popular of cat breeds. These stunningly beautiful cats are known for their incredible size with males reaching upwards of 13-18 lbs on average though larger males have been recorded. Here at Janjon, we only have 4 adult maine coon cats, one of which being a male. Our male, Dancer, is under 2 yrs old and already 18.5 lbs. Maine Coon Cats continue to grow until they are 3 - 4 yrs old so Dancer will still get larger. He is not fat, he's just BIG!

Here at Janjon Maine Coons, we also breed for those fabulous wild-looking lynx tips. All our maine coons have beautiful lynx tips on their ears, aka 'paintbrushes' as they are sometimes affectionately called within the cat fancy.

We are not a large cattery. All our maine coons live in our home with us. Our cats all come from DNA heart tested double-negative cats so our kitten buyers are assured a healthier cat and we know we are contributing to the breed in an ethical manner.

If you are interested in our maine coon cats, please let us know. Kittens will be up to date on worming, vaccinations, vet checked. Registration papers provided after proof of spay/neuter.

About Us

Sonata - brown patched tabby maine coon cat female

My name is Janet Ford. I have owned maine coon cats for the past 15 yrs and recently made the leap to breeder and show cattery. My husband, John, and I also raise, train and show redbone coonhounds as multi-generational coonhound fanciers. We are excited to begin our new hobby as maine coon cat fanciers. We can't express how much we love this special breed. There just isn't another cat quite like the Maine Coon Cat!! We love big cats and being dog trainers, we love that this breed is so interactive and trainable.

Our Beginning

GRCH Rimfire's Emily

Maine Coon cats are very difficult to get a start in if you are wanting to breed or show. Maine Coon cat fanciers are very protective of their breed, and rightfully so. Many breeds of both cats and dogs alike have been ruined or harmed as a whole by unsavory breeders who thought their cats or dogs in their breeding program were little more than fuzzy little wallets. As a long time breeder and showperson of Redbone Coonhounds, the author of many pet care articles (thousands), the author of Guide to Ethical Dog Breeding and the National Coonhound Examiner, I still had a difficult time finding anyone to even talk to me about the possibility of breeding maine coon cats.

I began talking to a maine coon cat breeder who had just gotten started in the fancy. I noticed her email address reflected nubian dairy goats and she was from the same state as my former mentor in the dairy goat show world, Deb Smith. I asked her if she knew of my dear friend and her renowned herd of dairy goats. Sadly, we lost Deb some years back due to a car accident. When we lost Deb, I soon went out of the dairy goat world. It just wasn't the same without my good friend and mentor. I was gifted Deb's prized, undefeated, champion nubian doe, Rimfire's Emily, when she died per her request before her accident that if anything ever happened to her, I was to inherit Emily.

My new maine coon cat breeder friend did not know Deb or Emily as she was new to the area but had heard of them. She told her maine coon cat mentor about me as he also had nubians and had been in that area a long time. He not only knew Deb, he was friends with her. When he found out Deb had left Emily to me he said that was all the reference he needed and agreed to sell me my first maine coon cats with breeding rights! Thank you Steve, Deb and Emily. :) Deb's still looking out for me. I miss and love you, Deb!

Our Cattery Name

Janjon Maine Coon CatsWe came up with the cattery name Janjon by simply combining our names, Janet and John, into one name. I say 'simply' lightly as it took months to come up with a name that wasn't already taken that we liked.

BEST Cat Toy Ever!

The Frolicat

If you've ever played with your cat using a laser light, you know how much fun it is. You also know how much more quickly you grow tired of the game before your cat does! With the frolicat, the laser fun goes on as long as your cat wants it to. You just set it up in the middle of the room and enjoy the entertainment as your cat not only enjoys himself but gets much needed exercise and brain stimulation. If you've never played laser tag with your maine coon, you are missing out! Honestly my highest recommended cat toy of all time.

Photos of Janjon Maine Coon Cats

Dancer - Brown Classic Tabby with White. Male. 18.5 lbs at 15 months of age. Large lynx tips, tall, long, tail longer than body length. Very playful, intelligent and demanding of attention. He is my shadow. He will grab your leg and ride on it if you'll let him as you walk around. Not an easy task with a cat the size of a good-sized bobcat! Shakes hands on command like a dog.

Oh seriously! These are the most precious type of cats I think -- we actually had a stray one show up in my last neighborhood. Such a sweety too. I think they have the most beautiful markings.

Gorgeous cats! My Brandy who was a stray we brought home was part coon cat according to the vet. She was a long haired brown tabby, so intelligent and so affectionate. I miss her dearly.

Oh, I would love to have a Maine coon cat. Gorgeous and such personalities. I had to turn off the kitten video because it upset my tabby to hear them crying. Too bad she never had the opportunity to be a mama.

The word "regal" came to mind for me to at the intro picture of Dancer, I love the lynx tips, beautiful cats. You certainly are gifted with animals!

I have had two cats that possibly had some "coon" in them. They did not get as large as your male, but they were hairy like the Maine Coons (fur between the toes and in the ears). Loved them both. Sadly, one was hit by a car when he was 6 years old; the other died when she was 18! Your new kittens are so beautiful. Wish I could own one--but my very allergic husband says "no more cats"!
  • mbrownauthor Aug 23, 2011 @ 9:48 pm | delete
How adorable are they!? I love cats. I have 7, but no Maine Coons (yet). Love this lens!
