This is an electronically controlled machine. If you're coming from an older mechanical machine this will be easier to use.
You can quilt, darn and sew with this machine. Sadly, some people have a hard time finding this machine now. If so, consider a Kenmore 19110. Janome actually makes the Kenmore machines and the 19110 is the replacement for this Harmony 8080
