Harajuku is a street in Tokyo made popular as one of the fashion capitals of the world. It is a vast shopping district visited by clothes and apparel enthusiasts not only from Japan but from around the globe. It is home to various international and local brands, trendy clothing outlets and boutiques. A hefty number of renowned designers and fashion ideas hail from this area. Japanese Harajuku street fashion is famous for its unique clothing sense that is totally different from other high-class styles found in other parts of Tokyo.

The uniqueness of Harajuku's street fashion is clearly displayed by teenagers and young adults who don brightly colored and boldly designed apparels. A flock of young boys and girls dressed up in one of a kind costumes is a common sight in the area.

Sunday is the perfect day to witness Japanese teens in their intensely exquisite costumes. A large number of them flock around the area to flaunt their flamboyant apparels. On Sundays especially, Harajuku becomes a beautiful site to behold with its colorful congregation of teenagers dressed up as anime characters, punk music artists, rockband members, bubbly Barbie dolls, or a medieval hero.

Japanese clothing and grooming up styles generally revolve around three types which are lolita, visual kei, and costume play or more popularly coined as cosplay. In Harajuku however, it can be mix of anything and everything under the sun. Girls and boys in the area can give anybody a run for their terrific assembly of mix-and-match designs.

Lolita Style

Lolita styleA manner of dressing up called Lolita is exclusive for women and men who are crossdressing. It is somewhat reminiscent of clothes from Victorian era, only the skirts are made much shorter.
