Japanese Koi Fish...

In the beginning, historians say that the Japanese koi fish originated in China. There is no story however, as to how the Koi found themselves in Japan. Some say that they were introduced by way of traders.

Eventually these traders made their way to the rice farms in Japan. And the rice farmers looking for more variety in their diet, noticed the different colors that the koi were exhibiting. As time went by, the rice farmers began to experiment with cross breeding different kinds of colorful koi to see if they could influence the colorful outcome.

The first time that the Japan and the world was introduced to the koi hobby, was in 1914, at a exhibition in Tokyo. The hobby exploded shortly after that and more and more colored varieties of koi were cross breeded. Currently, there are more than 100 varieties of koi in the world today!

The Koi Hobby

Koi become one of the fastest growing hobbies in the world. There are many reasons for this. Some like the sense of satisfaction. Whereas some just like the relaxation that comes with this hobby. If you are considering getting into this as a hobby, then you have picked a very fulfilling and satisfying one.
