History: Just Who is this Incredible Designer from Highland Park, Illinois?
Mr. Strongwater was born in 1960 as Jay Feinberg in Highland Park, Illinois, moving to Monvale, New Jersey during his teen years. Holding an avid interest in arts and crafts, he began his college education at the Rhode Island School of Design. Majoring in Fashion Design, during his sophomore year, Jay was prompted to handmake a necklace for his mother. He created a beautifully designed piece from large wood beads. This first necklace garnered the attention of a local boutique owner and ultimately the interest of Saks Fifth Avenue.
The overwhelming response to his jewelry resulted in Jay's decision to withdraw from school and develop Jay Feinberg Fashion Jewelry. His collections were soon being carried by Nieman Marcus, Bloomingdales and I.Magnin. During this time, Oscar de la Renta also features this marvelous jewelry in his fashion shows.As his business venture progressed, over a period of years and legal entanglements, Jay lost the right to use his own name on his creations. He decided then to use his mother's maiden name - Starkwasser, having changed to Strongwater during the family's emmigration to the states.
Since the 1990's JayStrongwater designs have grown to include photo frames, trinket boxes, ornaments and more with fantastic success. His crystal detailing and sumptuous enamels inspire us to appreciate and seek the beauty in all things.
