- As a fan of Jay (recently got another product of his)...
-I agree he's looking very out of date in this internet age, but he understands marketing at such a deep level, there's a reason why everyone takes his stuff. Other authors don't have the depth (you don't reread their stuff for years, learning something new each time). If he put together something new and fresh, I'm sure it would do well (get rid Icy Hot, Investment Rarities).
-He has single books that still command over a $100 on the secondary market. Yanik Silver, etc, Scheffren, they don't have this. They have other seminars and things, but not really the same.
-His protege tapes still sell for $400-500 on ebay, going on 20 years old!
-Silver, Schreffren, etc have taken the ball and run with it. Not the same though as learning from the man himself.
I've dropped all other newsletters, courses, ebooks, when you get Jays mindset, you don't look at others the same. That's what the fanatics will tell you.

Interesting to hear about your experience at Rich Schefren's February 2008 event. I wasn't able to make it but watched clips from the Strategic Profits blog and have the home study kit coming my way. (Any one interested should see http://www.squidoo.com/new-beginnings )
I saw a comment on a forum along the lines of "Jay Abraham is past it". All I know is that more traffic comes to my business coaching blog ( http://businesscoaching.typepad.com ) for Jay than any of the other gurus I talk about, despite the fact that I generally have better search engine positions for the others.
It seems that you are very Internet marketing focused so I can certainly see how people have taken the Jay Abraham concepts and moved them on in that fast moving world.
By the way, the me-too businesses I was referring to weren't the gurus but the thousands of businesses which struggle to differentiate themselves.

Repackaging? Yes.
Adapting them to new opportunities? Sure - his.
Absent any new content as you stated, why go to "the source" when you can save 80% and buy it second hand. Its not like the packaging will suffer.
Icy Hot is an inspiring example, as was Da Vinci's model for the helicopter. But, neither satisfies todays demands. What has he accomlished for anyone in the last 5-10 years?
I just invested in Schefren's live event in Orlando. Jay was the only speaker not swarmed after presenting. Perhaps, it was because he focused more on his pedigree than on the needs of us in the audience.
As for Maven relevance, an applause meter or attentive ear is all that was necessary to know who in Orlando were considered Mavens.
For my dollar, I do not see Ken McCarthy, Yanik Silver, Mike Filsaime, Alen Mandossian and company as me-too people or businesses. At least they adapt Jay's teachings to todays environment and deliver them in "complete package

- Eddy I agree that Jay has been repackaging his ideas and adapting them to new opportunities rather than coming out with any startling new content but what he does, works.
Personally I would prefer to go to the source than have the vanilla version through a third party. Yes Jay's ideas have been widely incorporated into other people's marketing and coaching programs, but again it is because those ideas work.
I also agree that it would have been nice to have seen different case studies rather than the evergreen Icy Hot and Investment Rarities but at the same time, they are very relevant to the maven concept.
At its heart, it is about differentiating yourself and finding your own unique view but I believe that is one of the hardest things to do. You just have to look at how many me-too businesses there are.

Abraham has some great ideas but the only thing truly new are the adverts to sell old content with new titles. Even the testimonials have been around for many years.
Even evergreen, his best ideas have already been adopted by and are now taught by most internet gurus for a fraction of the cost.

Jay Abraham and Rich Schefren seem to be best buddies at the moment and there are some great Jay Abraham resources on the Strategic Profits blog including about an hour of Jay Abraham at a T. Harv Eker conference, Jay's copywriting tips using Amazon and a great mindmap of an Internet Marketing conference Rich & Jay gave several years ago. There may be even more in the back history that I haven't found so I do encourage you to explore the Strategic Profits Blog.

Tony Robbins Interviews Jay Abraham
If you are a fan of Jay Abraham, you will love to hear the recording of Jay interviewed by Tony Robbins.The full title is "How To Optimize Your Business And Produce Maximum Profits."
This two hour audio recording is a great summary of Jay's ideas as Tony Robbins gives him a real grilling.
It has been available at a bonus in the Mr X book offer and the Tony Robbins Power Talk recording is available from Amazon although I am not sure if it is the full recording.
I have also seen the transcript available as a bonus on various other low priced bundles of Jay's PDFs but I prefer to listen to Jay.
