Jazz in Canberra Australia

There are many jazz venues and jazz bands in canberra. Here are five of the jazz venues in canberra and some examples of what is on there in April/May 2011 by way of jazz.

1. Jazz at the Tea House is on every sunday from 12.30pm at Federation Square 1 O'Hanlon Place NICHOLLS ACT 2913 (Gold Creek). The upcoming jazz bands for April/May 2011 are, Sunday April 10th - Equinox, Sunday April 70th - Frequently Asked Questions, Sunday April 24th - WordMadeFlesh, Sunday May 1st - Panacea, Sunday May 8th - Kooky Fandango, Sunday May 15th - Funky Fedoras, Sunday May 22nd - Dee Jay Gosper Trio, and Sunday May 29th - The Gossips.

2. Beyond Q Bookshop in Curtin ACT Australia, is a second hand bookshop that also has a cafe with live bands. The upcoming jazz bands for April/May 2011 are, Fri Apr 8/15/22/29 & May 6/13/20/27 5.30-7.30pm Carl Sampson Early Evening Jazz (jazz standards arranged for solo guitar), Sun Apr 17 4pm-6pm and May 15 4pm-6pm Jenny Spear (Classical, Light Jazz, Latin and Popular Music), Sun Apr 24 2pm-4pm and May 15 4pm-5pm Sienna Aguilar (vocal harmonies, popular songs with a jazz flavour)

3. Dickson Tradies is located at 2 Badham Street Dickson ACT 2602 Australia. On sunday from 5.30-7.30pm they have free jazz. Sun 10 Apr Panacea, 17 Apr Dirk's Ensemble, 24 Apr Soiree.

4. The Front Cafe & Gallery is located at Shop 3, 1 Wattle Pl Lyneham ACT. On 10 April 2011 at 6pm Rhythm Project Trio will be performing. I anticipate there is likely to be a cover charge for this.

5. The Hippo Bar is located in canberra city. On wednesdays (eg apr 13) from 9pm-11.30pm there is live jazz. There is a cover charge for entry.

In fact there is an artwork under art/other on Jevan's website, that is called sax, that could be considered a jazz inspired artwork, since it is of a man playing saxophone, in fact he is wearing sunglasses. I'm not sure how he would read music wearing sunglasses, he must know the song by memory which is pretty amazing.

The essence of Jazz music is the ethereal atmosphere of the dimensional harmony created by kaleidoscope of chromatic tones. It is the pulsating back beat of syncopating African rhythms through the rumble of the drums, or soft sound of the brush to the snare.

The music is an expression of melody from the depth of the soul conveyed as a gospel in many unique ways. These elements combined with the free impressionistic ambiance of instrumental tones in orchestration as a foundational juxtaposition of 7th, 9th,13th chordal harmony makes this style truly unique. The essence of Jazz music is music that is upbeat, full of pizzazz ,yet laid back with style. One would never guess that this free style of music has a foundation that began with Baroque elements found in Classical music.
