Millennia Institute, which has identical teaching and curriculum with junior colleges, prepares students for the same GCE A level in Singapore over three years.

The old A-level curriculum, thought to be too narrow, was revised in 2006 to be broader. Subjects -- classified under life skills, knowledge skills, and content based -- now focus more on thinking and communication skills. The Singapore GCE A level certificate now includes Co-Curricular Activities and Community Involvement Programme. Singapore universities considers these for enrolment under the Special Admission Scheme.

Subjects levels are Higher One (H1), Higher Two (H2) and Higher Three (H3) rather than Alternative Ordinary (AO), Advanced (A) and Special (S).

H1 subjects carry one academic unit; H2, two; H3, one.

H1 subject is half of H2 in breadth but similar to H2 in depth. It allows students to undertake areas of interest that students do not intend to specialise, or to pick up knowledge and skills that will support their future studies at university level.

H3 subjects, which Millennia Institute does not offer, encourage critical thinking and are for students to take a subject at a higher level. Students can use credits for these subjects--examined either by research papers, research work or MOE approved modules in Singapore universities--to skip modules in their undergraduate studies.

Students must take at least ten (3H2+1H1) and at most twelve (4H2+1H3) academic units including Mother Tongue Language (MTL), Project Work, General Paper or Knowledge & Inquiry. Though students have more subjects to choose from, they must contrast subjects. For instance, science students take humanities subjects, while humanities students take science-based subjects.
