Junction City: Where Fort Riley Lives

A lot of people stationed at Ft. Riley live in Junction City. Others have homes in the surrounding area including Manhattan, Ogden, Abilene and other cities and towns sprinkled here and there.

We chose to live in Junction City for various reasons, and have never had one regret. I love this town! Having spent my childhood in Texas, Kansas and Oklahoma, I feel quite at home in this population 15,576-ish small city.

Junction City Facts 

Junction City, seat of former Davis County and present Geary County, was founded in 1858, and derived its name from the nearby junction of the Republican and Smoky Hill Rivers.

Junction City was incorporated due to a special act by the Kansas Territorial Legislature in 1859.

Junction City was originally to be called Manhattan.

The population density in Junction City, KS is 2063 people per square mile (low for the national average).

The land area is 7.55 square miles.

The elevation of Junction City is 1107 feet.
