The Legendary RB26DETT and 2JZ-GTE
Back in the early nineties, there were a couple of JDM Engines that remain legends to this day - the 2JZ-GTE and the RB26DETT. These are the powerplants that came in the MKIV Supra, 1993-1998, and the Nissan Skyline GTR, 1989-2002. Each of these is a straight 6, and are of the strongest production motors ever built.
The Nissan Skyline RB26DETT came as a 2.6 liter, and the Toyota 2JZ as a 3.0 liter. Both of these motors are known to handle massive horsepower, with supporting external modifications. The 2JZ Supra received the nickname, 'The Dynoking', and the Skyline 'Godzilla'.

2JZ-GTE
In response to the RB26DETT, Toyota built the 2JZ-GTE. Toyota gathered some help from a German manufacturer for help with this. The 2JZ is mainly known as being the Supra power plant, although it also powered the Toypya Aristo V in 1991. The 2JZ, like the RB26, was also rated at 280 hp, for what was at the time called the Gentlemen's agreement, within Japan for the Japanese Domestic Market, and the models sold to the U.S. were rated 321 hp. Also like the Skyline's RB26, the MKIV Supra's 2JZ is an inline 6 twin turbo set-up, made of a cast iron block and aluminum head. These could also handle in excess of 600 hp with no other engine modifications, and perhaps a bit more with the right tuning, with the extra displacement over the RB.

Supra Racecar Parachute
I had the honor of helping with the parachute
During the weekend when we saw this amazing Supra, this one in Atco New Jersey, I was glued to him in the pits, as he was an approachable person, and was willing to talk. This is a rarity with intense race cars at an event such as the one he was in. He had to run drag radials, while the Mustangs in his class were all allowed to run slicks. That is so not fair, making a 6 cylinder run drag radials against turbo V8's with slicks. RB26DETT
The RB26DETT is a 2.6 liter inline 6, with an aluminum head and cast iron block. The cast iron block allows the extra boost, which is how they could handle so much power, similar to the 4G63 and A853. It is a twin turbo set up, and has 6 individual throttle bodies. Each T-28 turbo pushes 3 cylinders, and Nissan limited it to 15 psi with the OEM wastegate. The Skyline's RB26DETT was released with a rating of 280 hp, though they were under rated to pass JDM specs, as some hit over 300 hp unmodified. An untouched longblock can safely handle 600 hp, which leaves a legacy still remembered today.

- Ok. You've ALMOST got me talked into going to a race. My brother's coming down to FL for a visit and he enjoys watching races. Maybe we'll go to Daytona for one.
