Istana Budaya, Kuala Lumpur
The history of Istana Budaya was started in 1964 when a proposal to form the National Cultural Centre was submitted by then Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and Ministry of Cultural and Social Welfare.Istana Budaya was mooted during National Cultural Congress in 1971 as a Malaysian art discourse. Its establishment was advanced by the establishment of National Cultural Group (KBN) in 1972 under jurisdiction of Ministry of Cultural, Youth and Sports. In 1973, KBN were moving from Jalan Ampang to National Culture Complex at Jalan Tun Ismail that focuses its activities professionally in traditional dance and music.
Istana Budaya was initially build in 1995 with construction cost of RM210 million with an area of 5.44 hectare with floor area of 21,000 per square meter. Istana Budaya can be proud of as first theatre in Asia that has sophisticated stage mechanism for theatre performance.
The design of this building was based on Malay culture. Istana Budaya is situated nearby Tasik Titiwangsa along Jalan Tun Razak, Kuala Lumpur. Its construction was completed in 1998. The cabinet has approved the abolishment of National Theatre (Panggung Negara) to ISTANA BUDAYA officially in 2000.

Public Transport in Malaysia

To travel in Kuala Lumpur, use the Light Rail Transit (LRT). The LRT is operated by RapidKL. The LRT Services in Klang Valley are run on two main lines namely the Kelana Jaya Line and Ampang Line.There are also buses. Check out the RApidKL website to calculate your journey.

At Kuala Selangor, watching fireflies are one of the fascinating things to do. Due to the fast pace of development, fireflies is in time diminishing a little by little. The two locations where visitors can go to watch fireflies are : Kampung Kuantan and Kampung Bukit Belimbing in the district of Kuala Selangor.The right time to watch the fireflies is the second the sun sets, because fireflies feed on the nectar of the leaves of the mangrove trees when night falls. The Kuala Selangor Firefly Park visiting hours starts at approximate 7.30pm to 7.45pm. The place is quite packed on weekends. The park closes at 10.30pm. A ticket of RM10/ person will have to be purchased to take a canoe ride along the river. Life jackets would be provided during the ride.

To get to the Perhentian Island or Pulau Perhentian, the only way to go there is by sea. Boat services from Kuala Besut. Boat from Kuala Besut to Perhentian Island take about 1/2 hour journey by fast boat. Fast boat from Kuala Besut to Perhentian Island usually available from 9.00a.m to 5.00p.m.

After arrival in Lumut, Perak; you have to take the ferry to Pulau Pangkor. The ferry leaves every 30 minutes during the day. It takes about 40 minutes to the ferry port of Pangkor Town.

4) Tioman Island
The nearest point of departure Tioman is from Mersing jetty in Johor, although it is also accessible via Tanjong Gemuk in Pahang. Fast ferry services are available from both Mersing and Singapore.

5) Sipadan Island
Getting in requires some effort. Most visitors fly to Tawau from either Kuala Lumpur (3 hours) or Kota Kinabalu (50 minutes), continue by minivan or taxi to the port town of Semporna (1-2 hours) and from there to Sipadan itself (1 hour by fast boat).
