Jean Michel Basquiat
Jean Michel Basquiat was a street artist that started his artistic journey in New York in the late 1970's. He was born in 1960 and died of a drug overdose at the age of 27 in 1988. Just a year after his "father like" mentor died, Andy Warhol.
Basquiat painted in a style called Neo-Expressionism, and also did collaboration works with Warhol towards the end of his career. Basquiat used symbols, numbers, and odd sayings in places not common by traditional art methods. Basquiat would write SAMO on walls and on the subway trains. Basquiat's style of neo-expressionism is still providing inspiration for artists today.
