Jean Bart (October 21, 1651 - April 27, 1702) - was a (Dutch born) French naval commander and privateer. His Flemish birth name was most probably Jan Baert.

- I have a bronze statue of Jean bart which is about 9" tale but the blade of the sword is missing. You thinkk it is worth anything?

In 1694 Jean Bart captured a huge convoy of Dutch grain ships, saving Paris from starvation.

In World War II Dunkirk was almost completely destroyed by the Germans, but this statue of Jean Bart survived.
Apparently the sword that Jean Bart is holding points directly towards England, and it was used as a guide for the German air force.
More than 27 ships of the French Navy, over a period of 200 years, have born the name Jean Bart.
