The original "Platinum Blonde" sex symbol and American film actress!
Why this lens? Well, I've written other lenses on blonde "sex symbols" such as Jayne Mansfield, Mamie Van Doren, Joey Heatherton, and Carroll Baker [who played in the Harlow movie about her life]. But, you can't talk about the blonde bombshells and sex symbols of the 1950s, 1960s or today without mentioning the one and only, original "platinum blonde," Jean Harlow.
What's to love about Jean Harlow?

I loved what I saw of Jean Harlow through her films. She was feisty, opinionated, and an original who died at much too early an age.
If you know nothing abou this American film actress and blonde sex symbol, you owe it to yourself to read one of her books or see one of her movies! There are several excellent books and movies below to pick from!
She was original, the only and only "Platinum Blonde!"
Jean Harlow at a glance
![]()
Jean Harlow (March 3, 1911 - June 7, 1937) was an American film actress and sex symbol of the 1930s. Known as the "Platinum Blonde" and the "Blonde Bombshell" due to her platinum blonde hair, Harlow was ranked as one of the greatest movie stars of all time by the American Film Institute. Harlow starred in several films, mainly designed to showcase her magnetic sex appeal and strong screen presence, before making the transition to more developed roles and achieving massive fame under contract to Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM). Harlow's enormous popularity and "laughing vamp" image were in distinct contrast to her personal life, which was marred by disappointment, tragedy, and ultimately, her sudden death from renal failure at age 26.
Quick, what do you think of Jean Harlow?
Did you know Carroll Baker played Harlow?
I've also written a lens on Carroll Baker, another blonde sexy symbol and American film actress.
Carroll Baker (born May 28, 1931) is an American actress who has enjoyed popularity as both a serious dramatic actress and, particularly in the 1960s, a movie sex symbol. Despite being cast in a wide range of roles during her heyday, Baker's beautiful features, blonde hair, and distinctive drawl made her particularly memorable in roles as a brash, flamboyant woman.

Bern married film star Jean Harlow on July 2, 1932. Just two months later, on September 5, he was found naked, shot in the head, in their home on Easton Drive, off Benedict Canyon Drive, Beverly Hills, California.
