Birth of Jedi Kaizen

I love the definition of Kaizen in English that means, "Continual Improvement." But, improvement itself, could be limiting.

So, I borrowed the term Jedi from George Lucas to bring in those extra-ordinary talents we all have if we work with the Force. And Jedi Kaizen was born.

How does Jedi Kaizen accepts criticism?

Wow, Jedi got slammed with a rating of one on the first review on his first day. So, he goes to work on the Kaizen, continual improvement, and this is an opportunity to share some insights.

  1. Be realistic. Criticism hurts even if it is true, necessary and kind. A smile on the lips to cover the hurt just creates an emotional conflict. If you are hurt, acknowledge it and deal with it. You don't have to smile and you don't have to frown either. Jedi Kaizen suggest the following steps.

  2. Tell your emotional self, for esoteric readers this is called Astral or emotional body, that you understand the hurt but for now, you need to pay attention to learning.

  3. Learning requires an open heart, an open mind and open ears. It is difficult for us to do any of this if we see the other person as an adversary. To help keep the heart open, imagine a person you love and trust is talking to you instead of the one who is actually criticizing you. This helps you look for the good intentions behind the criticism.

  4. Listen carefully to the comments and not the tone. Sometimes people have a harsh way about them and their harsh tone clouds their words.

  5. Ask gentle probing questions to understand the nature of criticism and determine the merit of it and ask for specific advice on how to improve. Concentrate on gathering information and not defending your position. This will help you avoid additional emotional strains.

  6. Write down what you hear. This will help you remember and elevates your status in the eyes of the other person. Remember that he or she has probably never seen anyone who does what you are doing following these steps. Sometimes, you may even hear an apology for unnecessary criticism. Wouldn't that be a miracle?

  7. Sincerely thank the person - and I emphasize sincerely - tell them you will consider what they told you and walk away. Do not agree, disagree or debate.

  8. Congratulate yourself for extreme control and effective listening and do something nice and healthy for yourself.

  9. Later, evaluate the merits of what was said, implement what you consider helpful, discard what you did not consider valid or helpful but consider your reasoning. Don't let the emotional hurt prevent you from taking good advice. This does not mean to implement bad advice to be a nice person.

Let me know if you have taken any of these steps and how they worked for you.

Who or what is Jedi Kaizen?

We have a tendency to identify ourselves with the roles we play and as our roles change in life, we change our perception about ourselves, sometimes for the better, sometimes for the worse. It is good to remember that we have intrinsic values that are independent of our outer roles.

Jedi Kaizen represents the Force within us that is not of a gender and the manifestation of that Force in day to day living.

Is Jedi Kaizen totally fictional?

Jedi Kaizen is more real than fictional and writing about him or by him comes from actual life experiences with its struggles and tears as well as its achievements and joys. However Jedi Kaizen enjoys the freedom of a fictional character who relies on imagination as much as the facts.

What can Jedi Kaizen do for you?

The answer to this question changes as Jedi Kaizen interacts with you. Remember that Kaizen is continual improvement and that does not happen in a vaccum.

For now, he writes about various subjects that represent our needs, our desires, our hopes, our failures and our successes.

What is important to Jedi Kaizen?

Truth, love, spirituality, friendship, listening, honor, service, beauty, music, sports, business, writing and in that order.

Two examples of what Jedi means by "that order" are that he will not sacrifice truth in order to keep friendship and he values service to others above business profits.

Kaizen On Wikipedia

The term kaizen (Category: wikt - :??|??, Japanese for "improvement") is a Japanese word adopted into English referring to a philosophy or practices focusing on continuous improvement in manufacturing activities, business activities in general, and even life in general, depending on interpretation and usage. When used in the business sense and applied to the workplace, kaizen typically refers to activities that continually improve all functions of a business, from manufacturing to management and from the CEO to the assembly line workers. By improving standardized activities and processes, kaizen aims to eliminate waste (see lean manufacturing). Kaizen was first implemented in several Japanese businesses during the country's recovery after World War II and has since spread to businesses throughout the world.Europe Japan Centre, Kaizen Strategies for Improving Team Performance, Ed.
