What is National Jelly Bean Day?

Well the true origin of National Jelly Bean Day has not been clarified, nor is it a real holiday, it is still a day to kick back and enjoy these yummy tiny treats.

Jelly beans particularly the Jelly Belly jelly beans were made more popular from President Ronald Reagan. Who had to have a bowl of Jelly Bellys on his desk all the time.

Where did Jelly Beans Come From?

No one really knows where jelly beans came from. Many believe that they are descendants of Turkish Delight which have been around since at least the mid 1800s. The modern version of these sweet treats made their appearance during the American Civil War when William Schrafft of Boston wanted people to send candy to the solders who were in the Union Army.

Jelly beans began to be more of an Easter Candy in the 1930s because they look like mini Easter eggs. Since then many companies have begun to create different sizes as well as yummy flavors of jelly beans. Now you can find them in almost any flavor from Watermelon to chocolate. Most of the flavored beans come from the Jelly Belly corporation, however many companies do make then in a variety of flavors.
