5 Key Elements of Jem & Holograms Costumes
A Jem and the Holograms costume always has an 80s flair to it. Here are the 5 most important elements your costume must have:- The almost zany makeup. All the main characters have shapes "painted" on their face and these shapes distinguish one character from the other almost as much as their name and outfit.
- The wig. The characters all have different hair styles and different hair colors, which makes for a whole lot of diversity.
- The outfit. Most of the outfits revolve around the following styles: Short dresses, blazers, leggings/tights, ripped punk-y outfits, etc.
- High heeled shoes. Most, if not all of them, wore high-heeled shoes.
- Other Accessories. Synergy wears headbands, Stormer wears a flower on her hair, Jem has those red 7-pointed star earrings that allows her to change between Jerrica and Jem, Minx wears that large hat, etc.
Dress up like Jem
Jem Outfit / Costume
The number one rule for dressing up as Jem is this: Think Pink! From her hair down to her high-heeled pumps, Jem is normally seen wearing this girly color. If you want to copy the look you often see her on posters and on the opening credits, you can use the red shawl wrap and tie it on your waist in a sort of triangular fashion. Check out the pumps I saw, which have a fabulous lightning bolt detail that's very Jem-esque! I am also very proud to say I found a really good replica of the pink dress she wore - it looks gorgeous and it actually looks great not just as a Jem costume, but for normal days as well!Scroll down to the next section to see where you can score her totally outrageous red star earrings!

A Must Have!
These pairs of red / pink star earrings look almost perfectly like the ones she wears, except that it doesn't have super powers and it won't help you make a superstar glam hologram version of yourself. Awww... oh well :P We can dream can't we?

The Shirt for Costume Cheaters or for Truly Devoted Jem Fans
Whether you'd like to cheat this Halloween and just wear a Jem and the Holograms tee shirt instead of actually wearing a real costume, or you're a truly devoted Jem and the Holograms fan (please be the latter?), owning a Jem and the Holograms tee is surely going to express your love for the show. Who knows, it can also start a conversation or two with fellow fans, who'd go "Hey, cool, Jem, I remember that show", which can lead to you guys singing the opening credits together.

Dress up as Kimber Benton
The Redhead Hologram Costume
Kimber Benton is Jerrica's (Jem's) little sister and she is the perfect character to choose if you prefer to wear pants rather than dresses/skirts. Her signature look is the white blazer with the deep neck line so the red ruffled long sleeve top shows, light blue tight pants, and red shoes. Another great thing about Kimber's costume/outfit is that you can use pieces that you can actually wear again for normal days.
Aja Leith Costume / Outfit
Dress up Like the Sporty Guitarist of the Holograms
In the opening sequence, Aja wears a light-colored boatneck long sleeve top, a dark lavender micro mini, lavender tights, and lavender pumps, which work nicely with her blue hair. I switched the color of the top and the mini skirt in my recommendations but I think they still work quite well. Also, she has a nice chain like belt with circle details on it. Again, I love how all these items can be worn again on normal days; except for the blue wig that is.
Shana Elmsford Costume
The drummer turned guitarist of the Holograms
She is a part time musician and a part time fashion designer, so we probably have her to thank for the totally glamorous Jem and the Holograms costumes. In the opening sequence she wears a short lavender dress and pairs it with a cool white jacket. She starts off as the drummer of the Holograms, so you can bring a pair of drum sticks for added effect.For the jacket, if you can find one in stores with shoulder details that will be much better. Don't forget to put the collar up the way Shana did it!

Dress up as the Misfits Lead Singer
Also! For the added Pizzazz flair, wear a knee length green sock but only on your right leg
Stormer Misfit Costume
Stormer's Outfit
Stormer is the Misfit with the good heart and she shows this even more throughout the series :P She's remembered most by her blue hair and the red flower on her hair. In the opening credits, she also wears a zebra number but on the tighter side, compared to Pizzazz and with fishnet stockings inside. She also wears a pop of pink, so you can probably wear a pink tube top inside the dress for that pop of color.To look even more like Stormer, place a small black dot above the left side of your lip for Stormer's mole.
Roxy Misfits Costume
The Bassist's Outfit
Roxy wears pants in the opening series, so again, if you are more comfortable wearing pants, you can choose to dress up as Roxy instead :) Like Pizzazz, she has that one-sided thing going, but instead of wearing just one knee-length sock, Roxy wears only one long sleeve. Getting this lookis easy. Just wear a basic black tank top, and then buy a black extender sleeve to wear on your left arm. Roxy's hair is white/platinum blonde. Sadly though I couldn't find any pure white rock star / punk like wigs, so instead I saw this cool half purple half white punk wig that I think works really well! Or you can go for this black/white mullet wig or a blonde rock star wig.

Roxy Misfits Costume Part 2
Shoes and Pants
Here are my picks for Roxy's leggings, belt, and shoes. She wears hot pink peep toes but if you feel like there are already too many colors going on you can tame it up a bit with black peep toes. She also wears 2 chain necklaces. The pants were really tricky to look for - but I think this zebra legging will do the trick quite well :) Plus it fits the purple white wig nicely!

- I just re-watched Jem & The Holograms a few months ago. It was quite the trip down memory lane!
