My Favourite Movies

Ranked #19,206 in Entertainment, #234,484 overall

My Best Movies of all time!

This isn't a top ten. This is just a list of my favourite movies and what I like about them.
I am not a fan of any particular genre of film. I love Horror flicks and I love American Teen coming of age type movies too especially if they are loosely based on the plays of Shakespeare.

Also as a child of the 80s there has to be a couple of classics from that era in my favourite line up too.

There might be more than 10 or there might be less. As I am going I might add more because I am always discovering more movies that I love. Please bookmark/favourite me and keep coming back to check out the new additions

So here it is in no particular order.

# Back to the Future

Everyone should see this movie at least once in their life

I remember seeing the first movie at the cinema when I was about 15. I was madly in love with Michael J Fox and I think in all I saw the first movie about 3 or 4 times. Since then I have watched it at least 50 more times and it never gets tired.

They made 3 movies altogether and if I have to select my favourite of the trilogy it has to be the BTTF 2. However I love them all and will often sit down with my kids and watch the 3 movies one after the other.

# 10 things I hate about you

RIP Heath

I absolutely love this movie. I am a big fan of Julia Stiles and Heath Ledger and they are both wonderful in this movie which is loosely based on the Shakespeare play "Taming of the Shrew"

One of the funniest scenes is where Kat and Bianca's father makes Bianca where the ridiculous Pregnant belly.

My favourite scene is the Paint balling scene which is where Patrick and Kat kiss for the first time.

It is definitely one of those movies that I have seen so many times that I probably know all the dialogue from beginning to end.

# A Nightmare on Elm St

All 6 of them

I saw the first Nightmare movie when I was 13 years old. I sat down to watch it with my mum and although it scared me half to death, I got such a rush from that feeling.

The second in the series was very weak and went off the beaten track a bit but the 3rd in the series came right back on track and was scarier and gorier than the first.

My favourite of the series is definitely number 5 with the great Pizza scene in it. I went to a little theatre with some friends and after we all went for Pizza with plenty of Olives.

I don't need a story synopsis. Everyone knows the story of these movies.
Fred Krueger was a child abuser who was burned alive by angry parents many years before. Now he has come back in the dreams of his killers' children all out for revenge.

# Dogma

I love Kevin Smith

I don't know what it is that I like about this movie. I absolutely love Ben Afflek and Matt Damon when they are working together.
Alan Rickman is also brilliant in this movie and of course Jay and Silent Bob are the real stars.

Basically, Bethany no longer has her Catholic faith. Then one night her life is disrupted by the appearance of the angel Metatron in her bedroom played by Alan Rickman. He informs her she is the last descendant of Jesus Christ and is destined to set out on a mission to save all existence from destruction, by preventing two rogue angels, Loki and Bartleby, from entering a church in New Jersey.

The two angels played by Afflek and Damon have discovered a back door to Heaven, and if they go through the church's doors, they return to Heaven, and this will bring about the end of everything God has created.

Along the way, Bethany must face truths about the world around her, her beliefs, and her own existence.

It seems pretty deep but is extremely funny. Alanis Morissette makes a cameo appearance as God.

Church laws are fallible because they're created by man.

# St Elmo's Fire

A real coming of age movie

Another movie that I like to call an all-time fave. This is one of those classic 80s Brat pack movies.
The story is a classic of A Group of friends that are just out of college who struggle with adulthood.

I had a mad crush on Rob Lowe at the time of this movie and if you watch it, you will see why.

The music from this movie is fantastic too. Classic 8os hits and the title track which was recorded by English legend John Parr.

# The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Don't Dream it, Be It!

I was introduced to this movie in 1987. The place where I was working at the time planned to put on our own production of the show as a bit of fun. Since then I have seen "Rocky Horror" so many times I have lost count. Not to mention stage versions too. The best part of this movie is the audience participation.

Once you have seen it as many times as I have you know all the dialogue anyway so then you just find yourself shouting out the audience participation lines in reply to the main dialogue - Involuntarily!

You can find all the audience lines here at
badmovies.org
The story follows a newly
engaged couple on their way to visit their old science teacher when their car
breaks down. They go to a nearby mansion to use the phone but stumble upon a big
convention of weirdoes. The master of the house Frank 'n' Furter lives in the
house with his butler Riff-Raff and his maid Magenta. A whole host of strange
goings on ensue including the birth of "Rocky" who is Frank's pet project. Brad
and Janet both lose their virginity, find that Frank has kidnapped their beloved
science teacher Dr Scott as well as his nephew Eddie (Played by Meatloaf) and
lose all their inhibitions in an awesome climactic big number.

Rocky Horror Picture show

There is also a lot of great musical numbers in this movie. From right at the
start with "Science Fiction, Double Feature" to the haunting "There's a light"
and of course everyone knows "The timewarp"

# The secret of my success

More Michael J Fox

I love this movie because it is real good fun. Michael J Fox is so cute which makes it so easy to watch him on screen.
The story is about a young lad who flies off to New York from his home in Kansas to be a big shot business man. It doesn't turn out quite as he hoped though as he finds himself trying to juggle a double life.

Unfortunately Helen Slater plays the love interest in this movie and her acting is awful. She is so wooden and unconvincing as the high flying business woman and is a real disappointment for me.

# Fight Club

1st rule of Fight club - Don't talk about Fight club

Everyone knows that famous tagline from Fight Club...
This is one amazing movie. It is quite dark and does move quite slow at times but with excellent performances from Edward Norton, Brad Pitt and Helena Bonham Carter it is a film I can watch again and again even with the big twist at the end I still love watching it even though I know what is coming.

Also a great guest role by Meatloaf as Lovable Bob. I have always wondered if they were really his own boobs and if he grew them for the role or if he got the role because they are all his?!

# Much ado about Nothing

Kenneth Brannagh *swoon*

I love movies based on Shakespeare plays but this film is a great classic adaptation of the story. With a huge cast of major British Actors of the 90s as well as Legendary US actors such as Denzel Washington, Michael Keaton, Keanu Reeves and Robert Sean Leonard.

Ken Brannagh and Emma Thompson are fantastic as Benedick and Beatrice. As husband and wife in real life their chemistry on screen was enormous.

If you are unaware of the story. It is about old flames Benedick and Beatrice who end up detesting each other. Their friends and family believe however that they are perfect for each other and conspire to get them together.
They do this by persuading each one that the other is in love with them.

OK so it is also a classic love story of Hero and Claudio who meet and fall in love at first sight.

A miracle. Here's our own hands against our hearts. Come, I will have thee, but by this light I take thee for pity.

# The Holiday

This may seem a weird choice that doesn't really fit in with the rest of the choices but I love a good Rom Com.

The story is basically 2 women who do a transatlantic house exchange for the Christmas holidays trying to get away from men and both end up falling in love.
Jack Black is surprisingly good in this much more serious role than we are used to and Jude Law is gorgeous as the devoted single dad.

I can watch this movie over and over again...

Oh my God, we both said 'fruitily'!

# Mamma Mia

I really shouldn't like this movie as it is the Film version of a stage musical based on the songs of ABBA. Yeah I like the songs of ABBA but i find the concept quite corny.
I went to the pictures to see it when it first came out with my friend and found myself singing away and dancing in my seat all the way through.

The story is of a young girl who lives with her mum on a mediteranean Island in their run down hotel. She never knew her father but reads in her mum's diaries that it could be one of 3 men. Unbeknown to her Mother, she invites the 3 men to her wedding to find out which one is her real father.

There are some big stars in there although I am sure they didn't think it through when they were casting as the most embarrassing thing about this movie is the tone deaf 'singing' from Piers Brosnan.

My favourite moment in the whole movie is "The winner takes it all" Meryl Streep isn't the best singer in the world either but her performance of this song is so emotional and I blub every time.

When you're gone, How can I even try to go on?

I love the nightlifeRecently Immortailsed on the West end stage - Priscilla Queen of the Desert is a lovely story of 2 Drag Queens and a transexual who travel across the Australian outback in a big bus named Priscilla to get to Alice Springs for the gig of their lives.

Tick (Mitzy) is leader of this little troup who totally unbeknown to the others is on this trip to be reunited with his wife and meet his son for the first time.

Adam (Felicia) Is the baby of the family with problems he needs to get sorted out by getting away from it all.

Bernadette (Bernice) Was one of the original Lei girls of Hong Kong and agrees to travel with Mitzy and Felicia after losing her soulmate.

# 27 Dresses

27 dressesRemember I said I love Rom Coms. Well you can't love Rom Coms and not have this movie in your collection.
It is a sweet story of Jane the stereotypical "Always the bridesmaid, never the Bride" kind of girl. She has a closet stuffed with 27 Bridesmaid dresses and a secret crush on her boss.

They say that love comes along when you least expect it and that is what happens to Jane when she gets stranded in a small town with Kevin the reluctant wedding columnist.
My favourite scene in the whole film is the "Bennie and jets" scene in the bar.
